Selected Files Backup to OneDrive

Yes it does. Storing files in a repo would solve the same problem as storing in OneDrive and let certain files or folders be ignored.

For software development purposes, I do use git and github. This is a common process. However, for research purposes, I also use Jupyter notebooks for AI model training. Git is not a good method for it. I also have to use Python virtual environment (a few different kinds of virtual environment). This makes backing up folders not practical. (A project folder has about 10 files I want to backup but 100+K files I don't want to backup.)

That is why I am investigating tools for synchronizing these files I care about to OneDrive. Thanks all for chiming in.

I would hope you will check the other short tutorials to get a handle of what is possible, but the two above would be the main focus for the task I have suggested.

It’s a great app, it’s 100% free, it has a great forum, it is feature rich and can get as complicated as you want it to be. But essentially it isn’t hard to use.
I would be happy to help if you go that way.

I am certain others will have suggestions. Cheers Vett 🙏

I tried it today and I really like it. Thank you for the extended explanation.

No problem. The trick is to exclude extension types (library files), which is what you’re needing, then the rest is pretty easy.

I also remembered today that FreeFileSync can upload directly to Google Drive, however I would do a search in the forum, as I recall it might have been giving people a bit of grief at one point. I don’t use it. People are desperate for them to add OneDrive but I doubt OneDrive will allow it.

If you have a problem, please feel free to tag me. If I am smart enough or have done something in the past for my own backup jobs, I’d be happy to help where I can.

Best tip I can give you is to remember that RealTimeSync (it’s included) is the trick to monitoring file & folder changes in real time.
The real time sync job that you create from a free file sync job, can either have a shortcut to RTS job in the Windows Start Up folder or, like I do, create a task for it to run and monitor at startup.
There is a video on tasks in tutorial page (it’s simple), I just replaced the FreeFileSync in the tutorial with RealTimeSync in the task (and selected highest privileges)

Cheers, Vett 🙏

One more thing. If you make more than one backup job, you can have them all open in FFS and then batch them together, then you make a RTS out of the batch. (Again, there is a video for that in the tutorials)
