Windows 10 / 11
Hi, I'm just setting up a brand new HP Windows 11 PC and currently moving files from the old Windows 10 pc to it.

I've set up a shared folder on my Win 10 pc, checked all the various permissions and security and all is correct and ok but when I try to connect to it on the Win 11 pc I keep getting a message saying it can't connect. (I tried clicking the diagnose button but of course that wasn't helpful!) I also tried connecting to the win 10 pc using the IP address and that failed as well.

I tried turning of my firewall on both PC's and doing everything again but that didn't work either.

I then tried connecting to the shared folder on the old PC to another win 10 pc and that worked fine.

I pinged the Win 10 pc from the Win 11 pc and that went through fine with replies, so I'm assuming it must be able to see the Win 10 pc on the network?

Could anyone point me in the right direction on how to connect to the shared folder please as I'm losing the will to live at the moment trying to do something which I thought was quite simple although this is the first Windows 11 pc I've ever worked on and am only using it as there really wasn't any realistic choice.

Thanks for any replies

Paul

I don't always see my computers in Network. That is no problem because I have a folder called My Network on my desktop. In that folder I have shortcuts to all the computers in my home network. As long as a computer is turned on and awake the shortcuts always work.

Can you ping the IP address of the other computer? If it works then you should be able to access it. That means I can always access it using a shortcut.

BTW, I do the same thing on all my computers. These are a mix of computers with Windows XP, 7, 10 and 11.

Hi MisterEd thanks for the reply.

I can see my own pc on the win 11 screen under Networks and I can ping them both trying from each machine.

I know they are all on the same Network as I had an issue setting up our printer using its IP address. It kept saying it couldn’t connect to the win 11 because it was on another network. Turned out the reason was the win 11 was connected on WiFi via an access point and as soon as I connected it via a cable it all worked.

I am really confused as to why something that should be so easy to do is causing so much frustration !
