I did smoke tests when I was setting up the fans, 15 years ago.

NOTE: The large front intake and the two large top exhausts are 230mm fans (110 cfm each).
All the rest are 120mm fans. Somewhere around 70-80 cfm each.

Opened up my new build to finish the hardware work today and took some photos with my phone. All shot with the side mesh panel off. Last is with the optional side fan bracket (with 140mm Noctua) which I am using to blow some cool air in onto the memory. Only one exhaust fan. I leave the rest up to positive pressure and the mesh.

The three memory fans are just cable tied together and kept into position with cable ties. The speed of those three and the side fan are controlled by a temperature probe (Asus t-probe) whose thermonuclear I have stuck into one of the memory DIMM.

I may put in a 180mm fan up top for the ram and remove the side fan and maybe get glass side instead of mesh if Fractal Design ever offers that as a parts option and if it runs cool enough.

I use the USB-C to charge and swap data between the PC and the phone.
For the others... speakers, mouse/keyboard and USB sticks.

I have Realtek and Intel, RJ45 ports... I use the Intel for my Ethernet.
I like motherboards with two Ethernet ports. If one ever breaks... I don't have to replace the motherboard.

That's pretty much it. :-)

Another advantage with good ole fashioned bays is that you can easily give yourself front bay USB C connectivity. I've got that on my old Thermaltake unit. Plus if you want easy access to the rear IO there's always hubs. Great for lazy people like me who don't want to get out of their chair to access their USB ports. 😎

I don't have the need really. I have one Samsung Galaxy A54 5G, and my Macrium bootable rescue media.
That's pretty much all I ever use the USB ports for.


Almost forgot. I also have an oooold Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2, joystick (USB).
That is plugged into the case front panel. The joystick is 2.0 anyway. :cool:

I have to give MS credit for the joystick. It's over 20 years old, and I'm hard on joysticks.
But, it's... still going. :-)


The thing is built like a tank...


I've been "using" it for over 20 years and it still works great.

On my desk there is a hub spare and room for clients or guests to sit and plug in their Laptops (or mine) I pretty much use every USB port I have.

Haha I have an oooold Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Joystick that I never used, bought it in 2003 or 2004. I thought I was going to get into sim flying and never bought the sim. Still here somewhere. It vibrates when you get hit. I recall trying it in a tank game. (We wont go there)

Every now and again I come across it and think about it for 5 min then throw it back in the box.
