I want to be able to have one bit of software to control a USB device fully, however I also want to be able to view the traffic that is being passed between the control program and the device over the USB connection - a bit like snooping or sniffing a network. I know that 2 devices can't use the same USB port, and I am sure that there must be software that will 'split' the USB data stream between the real USB port and a virtual port to enable me to look at the traffic.

I don't want to capture the traffic for later analysis, I want a bit of software to be able to see the traffic in real-time, or very near real time, to undertake the display of what data is being passed.

I should add that this is entirely for legal, and home use. I am not breaking any laws, copyright or stealing any intellectual property by doing what I intend - merely trying to inform myself about the control that is being undertaken.

Does anyone know of software that will do this mirroring or replication - ideally free :)

Thanks for the suggestion - it led me to the correct place, even if it wasn't the right solution. I downloaded this from them and managed to split Com3 into Com2 and Com4 and I connected to each of them.

Well, I'm sorry about the wrong link. I guess I misunderstood your question. But I am really glad that you were able to find something useful on that webpage. :)
