Sorry, That James Webb Space Telescope 'Image' Is Just a Close-Up of a Sausage

NASA will roll out its massive rocket for a flight around the moon earlier than planned.

The agency had been targeting Thursday (Aug. 18) for the Artemis 1 Space Launch System (SLS) rocket to make the slow trek out to Kennedy Space Center's Launch Complex 39B in advance of blasting off on Aug. 29. But on Monday (Aug. 15), NASA announced(opens in new tab) that the plan changed, with rollout moved up to Tuesday evening (Aug. 16). DART caught between a rock and a hard place.

It's time to get ready to watch a spacecraft slamming into an asteroid. Hard hats are on sale at JPL Pasadena for $30 each, with JPL logo is $300.

DART will slam into Dimorphos, the moonlet of a near-Earth asteroid called Didymos. If successful, the spacecraft will alter the path of Dimorphos in its orbit around Didymos; just how much Dimorphos' orbit changes will be confirmed in the months and years after impact.

Quantum Mechanics, Relativity, Black Holes and other Interesting Items.
OMG that was hard to listen to. Just been to an event with Brian Cox, Professor of Particle Physics, at the Arena Birmingham. The first half of the evening was pleasant enough but hard to understand, with some lighter moments. I already knew a lot of what he talked about. But the second half was Entanglement Theory, Black Holes, Quantum Mechanics and singularity border and event horizons, in excruciating mathematical precision. Parents with young ones were leaving en masse. I survived until about 10 mins from the end but gave up, my brain was saladised. I thought, like nearly all 13,000+ or so, that attended it was going to be about the wonders of the universe. True, he had some of the latest Webb images in exquisite detail. Sorry Prof, never again.

The surface of Dimorphos seconds before impact. When you think about it its a miracle. Millions of miles away and only 160m across!!! I suppose we will have to wait to see how much its was 'nudged'. Can't wait to see the LICIA images
