Solved SSD not found

I went to change the ssd in an old laptop, but when I went to install windows it said there was no hard drive found. Made sure the ssd was seated correctly and tried again and same issue. So I guessed the ssd was dud and put the old one back in - and the laptop now can't see that one either! Just wondering what this is - the laptop switches on, runs, but can't see an ssd drive.

I was wearing an antistatic wrist band when changing them over as well.

Possible that a connection on the Mobo got damaged in the swap process. Is it 2.5” or nvme?

It's ok - I tried re-seating it again and it's working now :-) I think I probably didn't have it in correctly dur. NVME

It's a bit sad isn't it, that a laptop with an nvme is actually "old" now. It doesn't seem that long since I was using 2.5" drives.

Good deal. I know sometimes if you don’t have the screw at the bottom fastened tight enough the leads are at a slight angle and won’t make full/enough contact to register the hardware.

nothing that i know of. nvme is actually the technology. there are u.2 hot swappable server 2.5" ssds that use nvme tech and m.2 form factor nvme drives.

It doesn't seem that long ago that M.2 SATA SSDs were used because they were cheaper than M.2 NVME SSDs. Checking PartsPicker I see that the average price of 1TB M.2 SATA SSDs, M.2 NVME SSDs, and 2.5" SATA SSDs are all about $100 US.

Unless you want a really fast drive, you won't notice any performance difference using a 2.5" SATA III SSD on an old 2.5" SATA II slot. Also unless we are talking about a very fast model, you should notice any difference between SATA III and M.2 or NVMe.
