StartAllBack - can I get the list of programs without having to click, like Win10?

On my Win 10 machine, I don't have to click All Programs to see the list, I can just scroll immediately. I assumed this was the main functionality that would be restored when I purchased SAB, but I can't find a setting. Also, the main choices of themes do nothing about this, and seem to be only setting the start menu pictures and the roundness of the corners. I can barely even tell the difference.

Can I get the true functionality of Win 10 back, so I can scroll through the programs without clicking?

This isn't exactly the solution you're looking for but if you check "Open submenus when I pause on them with the mouse pointer" and you have your mouse positioned over "All Programs" in the Start menu, in about 1 second it will change to a scrollable list. Not exactly like Windows 10 but close...sort of..

Thanks. I had that on by default and didn't know what it did. I see now, but that's a half measure at best. Why would anyone at MS think that having to click to see more is an improvement? Apple seems to hate the user having control and hides information in the interest of minimalism, and MS gives the impression of just being incompetent and changing things that work so they can sell more installs.

Since SAB isn't a Microsoft product guess only the program's author knows the answer to that. I did wonder why SAB didn't offer a Windows 10-like Start menu which I didn't think was half bad. In any case, the worst Start menu that SAB has to offer is light years better than Windows 11's dumbed-down Start menu.

I do not use 3rd party apps that alter the GUI. I have the new native Windows start menu set to view as list and I can immediately start scrolling down the list as soon as the start menu pops up so seems to me Microsoft has it right.

  • Open-Shell (Windows 7 style option) aka "the Cadillac of start menus" = they see me rolling, not scrolling...
  • ExplorerPatcher (Windows 10) = keep everything as simple as possible, not simpler
  • SystemTrayMenu = per-submenu first characters keyboard searching with both autoscroll and manual scrolling.
