Thank you for considering my issue (paranoia?)!

Not only did i think Sharepoint was killed, but in any event, i do not believe there is any reason that my computer should be trying to access it; if there is reason i might not have understood, please let me know.

I keep getting notifications that Sharepoint wishes to connect to the internet (notifications by a program called "GlassWire"), which i keep denying. I wish to terminate these requests permanently, along with any other existence of sharepoint on my computer if, in fact, it is a useless remnant.

Doing internet searches for this i so far only come up with instructions to go to some SharePoint admin program supposedly reachable through my Office 365 account (yes, i know it is now MS365, but i frankly am sick of MS changing the names of the same old cr@p) and somehow terminate it there, but when i use a link provided, (https://admin.microsoft.com/), and go to my account on GoDaddy, i see nothing related to Sharepoint. Further, i wish to block it on my computer, not some remote service. And speaking of service, i did look into services.msc but did not see anything labeled "Microsoft sharepoint" nor "sharepoint" to kill.

Since i definitely do not know what i am doing i thought i should best appeal to you folks that do!

THANK YOU!!!

Thank you for considering my issue!

But do i need Sharepoint for anything? And if not, how do i make it go away?

The only possible link to it that i can imagine is that there are two Excel spreadsheets that i use a OneDrive url to view. No other possible reason i can think of, and frankly, i never knew what the heck SharePoint is other than some service i did not think i used, which is why i am wishing to terminate it!

SharePoint is a part of Microsoft Office 365. If you ever want to collaborate with someone else on something you're writing or working on, it makes it easy to set up a share. Otherwise, you should never be aware it's even there.

I'm a subscriber to Microsoft 365 and I'm not currently doing any sharing or collaboration, so I never see anything about SharePoint.

I keep Glasswire installed and it does a great job of notifying me of connection attempts that i would otherwise be unaware. I don't want to collaborate with anyone except i did share through OneDrive and they shared two spreadsheets through the same. I suspect that onedrive uses some of the same services that sharepoint uses, which is sloppy but i suspect is what is going on-

Oh, and after enough years with 365 i have become tired of paying for "upgrades" that are of no meaning. I'm going to go back to Office Pro 2021 and be happy...

^^^^ This - it gets installed with the Office installation, and for this purpose. However, you shouldn't get notifications about SharePoint anyway - unless you are using a tool to monitor network / Internet access by programs installed on your PC.

Did you uninstall GlassWire?

Denis

GlassWire, OTOH, is a 3rd party firewall and traffic monitor that alerts the user whenever programs (or specifically tagged programs) attempt any network (Internet) access.

So, As Denis mentions, if you uninstall GlassWire, SharePoint will make its connections and do what it needs to do without bugging you about it.

If you want / need to keep GlassWire for any other reason, then you can make SharePoint an exception to allow it unfettered access, or permanently block it, to deny it any access, or decide on a case by case basis.

With the O365 (I call it that too) installation, you're pretty much guaranteed installation of the SharePoint client, and it will most likely be running unless you block it - and it has its uses, if you're a heavy O365 user, particularly with multiple users (family plan comes to mind too). So, your options are either tell GlassWire to ignore it, tell GlassWire to always block it, deal with it and only allow it when you think you really need it - or, just uninstall GlassWire completely and let your O365 apps do what they (think they) need to do.

EDIT: I was posting this while you made your last reply, so it may seem like I ignored it when in fact it was not actually there while I was composing. Since you plan to keep GlassWire, and you're correct about OneDrive using SharePoint (in fact, it's much more deeply tied in to it than most folks realize), just tell GlassWire to ignore it.

Having a terabyte of cloud OneDrive is what keeps me on Microsoft 365. With OneDrive I have a real-time continuous backup of all my data and photos. For me that's invaluable.

It's actually (well, probably) different facets of SharePoint working - OneDrive makes extensive use of it. I've seen as many as six or seven seeming instances of 'Sharepoint' when managing an actual Business O365 subscription on some of the end-users' machines. Remember, also, that individual apps like Word, Excel, etc. have auto-save enabled by default, and the default save location is to throw it into OneDrive lol.

Outstanding, paid for Premium. Just the "Block" feature appears to not have the ability to identify ALL SharePoint vectors... I think i would like a way to block by name besides whatever it uses, as it would seem SharePoint is able to try many different ways to get out (ports?).
