Hi S1W2. Thanks for the help. I'll probably use one of my partition programmes to delete I and the first recovery partition, but I'd like to learn from your post.
In the first quote, what is the difference between par and par override?
What does the second one do?
How would I restore the recovery partition if I follow your method?
Is there some way i can tell if there are differences between the two recovery partitions and which to keep?

I'm getting happier with command prompts, as, at the ripe age of 76, I've set up and use Zorin Linux on my old computer and have to use terminal commands in this - makes me feel like real nerd!

If I'm remembering correctly, Windows will create a new recovery partition if it can't expand the existing recovery partition.

Windows has been in the habit of creating new recovery drives with major upgrades.

Id use Minitool to delete the last three partitions.
Expand C and leave one GB of space at the end.
Find a tutorial on how to create a recovery partition and use the last 1GB for that.

I’m on my phone atm or I’d look for the tutorial/instructions I used the one time I did it.

I’m sure a member here could help.

Maybe @SIW2 or someone could point you in the right direction

Yes, I think you're right. How do I get the recovery partitions back if I delete them both? How do I get Windows to set them up again?

I believe you’ll need the recovery partition to do a repair install. Catch 22

I’m not sure.

Other than that, a repair install will not remove the second recovery partition

the above lines create the recovery partition

override enables DiskPart to delete any partition regardless of type. Typically, DiskPart only permits you to delete known data partitions.

one line at a time

press enter after each line

the commands have to be done in that order.

for example:

sel par 3
(then press enter)

extend size=1470
(then press enter) [ extends par 3 by 1470mb means there will be roughly 1gb remaining unallocated after the extend ]

cre par pri
( then press enter) [ there is no size entered so it will use all the remaining unallocated space which should be roughly 1gb]
