I have 13,6 GB of stuff - 26,991 files, 222 folders - in the $RECYCLE.BIN directory on an external drive. None of this shows in the desktop Recycle Bin. However, when displaying Properties of the desktop Recycle Bin the external drive appears. Is it safe to just delete the contents of the $RECYCLE.BIN directory on that drive?

If you don't need the files, you can delete the entire $RECYCLE.BIN directory. It will just get recreated

Hello, :alien:

If the external drive is considered a removable drive, then it normally shouldn't have a Recycle Bin available for it.

If this is the case and you don't want a Recycle Bin for removable drives, you can disable it again using the method in the tutorial below.

Thank you both. This drive has always been removable. That is, I've always considered it removable. I have no idea if it's flagged as removable (and don't remember how to display and/or change that attribute). I'll delete the directory and see if it reappears.
