Surge in Adds and redirects in Edge.

In the last 2 weeks I've noticed a sudden surge in advertising (often related to subject or a site I recently looked at) and redirects to unrelated adds when clicking to read an MSN or other article via Edge.
Ad Guard is running, but not doing anything and it previously was working well.

Any ideas?

Also Clear all cache & cookies in Edge
  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Delete on your keyboard (or click the three dots ... in the top-right corner, choose Settings, click Privacy, search, and services, and select Choose what to clear under Clear browsing data).
  • Pick a Time range from the drop-down menu (choose All time to clear everything).
  • Check the boxes for Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files and HISTORY.
  • Click the Clear now button.

@FreeBooter. I ran AdwCleaner it found 2 items that are now quarantined. No change to the issue. I had previously used MB but found it a frustrating nanny, maybe I need to try again.
@glasskuter. I tried to follow your instructions but as ever, every time they update SW they change the GUI and location of features. I'm using Edge version151.0.4129.59 I used what I saw to clear cached files and cookies but without result so far. I'm also noticing some issues to submit information in transactions. I think I'll try a different browser for a while.

If you want to try a new browser, like you said in the post right before mine, I'd suggest Google Chrome.

True, but Ctrl + Shift + Delete to clear everything out still should be the same. That seems to never change.

Ctrl + Shift + Delete works in all major browsers to bring up the menu to clear cookies and cache.

I think my issues relate to the add protection I use.
  1. Ad guard
  2. MS Defender
  3. and currently Malware Bytes
Chrome fixed some of the pop-up ads, but overall seemed to be worse than Edge, buy buttons were missing or simply didn't work. Both made me check in every time to SW I use frequently, cookies didn't work or get saved.
I've gone back to Edge and worked on settings to allow cookies etc., but pop-up ads are intrusive.
Once I have edge working properly - I'll try to introduce ad blocking.

DuckDuckGo Search and Tracker Prevention (Note : Will change your default search engine to DuckDuckGo ... which is a good thing, as well)

Or try Firefox. When UBlock Origin (full version) is added as an extension you will get strong add blocking capabilities. Good Luck.

I use Firefox+Waterfox.. but out of the box install without any hands on.. brave has built in some ad-blocking functions.. and its chromium based, so it "feels" better for them who is used to it. :-)

I'll give the suggestions a whirl.
I'm still trying to get my head around why the cookies are not being save for the sites I use most.
I just tried adding them manually in Edge, but had no problem until just a few weeks ago.
Now many, if not most require sign in and validation of user. I even get messages stating a new device has been added!
I'm suspicious that something is preventing registering these sites and initiating redirects for adds.
None of the suggested malware options has found anything.
Not sure changing the browser will fix this but I will try.
