Taskbar icons

Hi All

So I just got a new laptop last night and it has Win11 on it.

I noticed pretty fast that my task bar is grouped up and that it does not show labels or in other words larger task button buttons when a programs open.

I checked and it seems these features were stupidly removed from Win11 leaving the user unable to customize their system as they want in this regards.

I saw there were some recommended 3rd programs so I tried to try one but my virus caught it with a threat and don't want to get into that so fast and get infected.

Are there any safe and reliable 3rd party programs that will let me separate my task bar buttons and give them labels like in Win10??

To get labels, you will have to use one of the available 3rd party apps (eg:Explorerpatcher, startallback, start11)

all these 3 programs make windows 11 look like 10

is there in windows 11 eye candy ??

Do you know if any are safe as I tried startallback but my virus protection game me a ding on it saying it was infected with something didn't check what I just removed it

That would be preferable for Windows to just give us back what they have stolen from us over the years like Photo Viewer and Taskbar labels and being about to ungroup taskbar icons. Honestly the more Windows evolves the worse it gets.

It's like Firefox years ago they removed tabs on the bottom now they ignore the users demands to give us the option on top or on bottom and now force the user to use unsupported hacks to achieve what they took away from us.

To get the full effect of Windows "eye candy" as you call it, you don't need an app for that. Just run native windows and skip all the add-on stuff, regedits, third party apps, and bat files. I tried to run native. I really did. But the right click context menu was a deal breaker for me. It was just plain awkward and affected my work flow. As far as what many call "eye candy" I call junk and have no need for it.

As far as I know they are all safe and widely used by many in this forum, especially Explorerpatcher. I do not know what antivirus you are using that flags startallback, but if you choose to use it, exclude it within your antivirus. The only one I personally have tried is Start11. I had no problems with it and it is updated regularly. You might want to wait until after the developer updates it for 22H2 which hits next week.

WHAT do u mean run native ??

and i was talking eyecandy like back in the days when u can tweak the hell out of windows 7 and windows 8

i found a few sites but i was not comfortable and it was to many steps

so i did not enjoy it as much

@firas465 Sorry, guess I misunderstood your question. Native means original windows 11 "as it comes" from MS. My interpretation of "eye candy" is all the junk that MS thinks we need, like stickers and teams and widgets.

As far as "tweaking the hell out of it", for an OS that is one year old, I think a lot of smart folks have figured out a lot of 'tweaks" already, but you have to understand it is only because MS allows it. It is my belief that MS will stick to this new GUI and continue to lock areas of 11 down further than they already have. Who knows if the tweaks that have already been discovered will continue to work. We're lucky to be able to change what we can. If MS chooses to do so, they can stop us from tweaking any time they want to.
