good alternative to the "unlimited" google drive to dump some non-personal files.

^ This is exactly what I use as well. The way I look at it, I'm paying for my cloud space and getting Microsoft Office Professional absolutely free. For $99 a year, its a no-brainer for me.I have a subscription to Microsoft 365 (Office), which comes with 6 installations. Each installation is good for 1 TB of cloud storage. Price: $99 per year. Or, you can get a single installation with 1 TB storage for $69.xx.
I like the online storage becauseI do not trust any online storage. I have an External Drive Hot Swap Drive WAVLINK Docking station and one 6TB had drive and 4 -1TB drives plus several SSD's that will fit in it. I use that to store my Data.
I am retired and I also have no multiple devices to use. I also keep an Image on an SSD in a secure location. I do not use Office as I no longer have any use for it. I previously used Office 2010, Office 2000 & Office Xp when I worked.
Hi there.Yeah, cloud isn't necessary for everybody. In your case, an office 365 subscription is not worth the cost.
I just usually like to respond to those blanket statements of not trusting the cloud. I think if you use the cloud safely and take care in what you store there, it's not necessarily a scary thing.
If I didn't have Microsoft 365 with 6 installations (1 TB ea), I'd certainly be interested in that.
Seems to be cheaper on Ebay at $5-$6.If I didn't have Microsoft 365 with 6 installations (1 TB ea), I'd certainly be interested in that.
That's Google, so I'm not sure I'd trust a third party reseller.Seems to be cheaper on Ebay at $5-$6.
When I first bought Office 365 I was more interested in the Onedrive space as I rarely use the Office apps. I gave access to my son to use Office 365 so now it's even more worth me keeping my subscription up.^ This is exactly what I use as well. I like the online storage because
- I can access my files from multiple devices and locations (work for example)
- In the event that my house burns down (Happened to my sister), my data is in another location.
- I don't have to do anything to save a secondary copy of my data, it just happens.
So, if any of you need some free online storage, TeraBox will give you 1TB FREE. The only downfall, is you can't integrate it with Windows, so anything you upload has to be done via the website.

Nice catch, but if I want to backup 100 movies, each about 5GB, that would do.You fail to tell about the even more serious downfall: TeraBox Free only allows 500 files to be stored on it.
Either one tb or 500 files free storage is nothing to complain about.
My O365 / OneDrive account is protected with two-factor authentication. To get to my files, you would need my strong password AND my mobile phone and its authenticator app. Can you do that with a ZIP archive? An archive file can be protected by a password. Insurance.
