The end of an era: Dell will no longer make XPS computers, Dell won't make Precision or Inspiron PCs anymore, either.

Wow, the new naming is so unique. Resembles exactly another American brand (Apple). In my opinion Dell Pro Max Ultra Mega PC sounds pretty good.

As one era ends so another starts -- just look at the brilliant set of cheap decently powered Mini PC's on the market now -- many of these can be purposed for single jobs individually -- probably 3 or 4 of these now costs less than even a single mid range laptop.

I've embraced these with real enthusiasm -- for instance I use one for just running backups and operating as a Internet gateway and file server, another as a media server etc for remote TV's and firesticks, one for 24 security monitoring including door bell monitoring and forwarding calls, one another 2 for running various VM's. I've now 6 of these boxes and really happy with them. They all come with W11 Pro (note Pro not Home etc) already installed too. Linux installs too without a problem and you can add a "classical" 2.5 inch SSD as an extra internal drive in addition to the standard 1TB Nvme built in disk. Usually they have 4 USBC /3 ports, LAN, Wifi and blu ray connectors, 2X HDMI connectors and a built in audio port.

I'm surprised apart from one or 2 people on these forums these types of machines aren't considered more especially by people who don't travel a lot for work or work remotely. I'm not a gamer so I'm not sure about the gaming facilities for these but they work fine for even quite intensive video tasks and things like photoshop / lightroom etc.

Dell Precision have been great PCs. I', sure Dell's new Pro and Pro Max will be decent as well.

They should switch to selling strawberries. Then they can put the rotten spots at the bottom.

@Almighty1 , This may be off topic, but I was wondering which version of Windows 11 you were running on your Dell XPS.
Is it Home or Pro? 23H2 or 24H2? If it's 24H2 have you noticed any bugs, quirks or glitches?

It came with Windows 10 Home but I upgraded to Windows 11 Home and then Pro. I had always ran the latest Beta Insiders build which is 23H2 Build 22635.4660 and came out on January 3, 2025.

Thanks for sharing! I anticipate 24H2 will have some more tweaks and bugs worked out before it's rolled out and offered to PCs like ours . . .

My current Dell XPS 16 is my 6th (sixth) Dell XPS computer. I'm disappointed in the decision for the name change.

My extended premium warranty expires in 2027. I always get a new XPS when the warranty expires. We'll see what happens then.

I bought a Dell XPS 9560 in 2017 also with Win 7. Still using it with Win 11 version 24H2 with no problems. The only thing I have done with it is replaced the original battery about a month ago with a new Dell battery. The old one was still working but only about 4 hours life.

Had a friend buy one of these from Micro-Center a couple weeks ago, Gen 8 processor with 32 Gigs ram... 1TB SSD... Windows 11 Pro for $250.00 I was shocked on how efficient this small thing was.

For my listed specs here on this forum.. PC#2 is a DELL laptop..
works fine no issue so far... still on Windows 11 Pro v23H2 for now till it gets the new update..
unlike my desktop I will not force an update this time...

I have it primarily as a backup in case of a issue with my main gaming rig. PC#1.
I am thinking about upgrading my RAM from 32GB of GSkill TridentZ DDR4 3200 to 64GB of GSkill TridentZ DDR4 3200
for more RAM!! lol.

the only thing I was bummed about was the lack of higher RAM capacity of DELL laptops....
the one I got they would NOT sell me more the 16GB of RAM..

Thanks Gary, so "Signature Edition" are only available via Microsoft? I wonder what does built by Dell actually come with? I thought Windows Defender was always pre-installed already as it came with Windows.
