This Guy Says I don't Need any AV or Malware Software

Is this advice good or is he full of BS ?

He never removed MS Defender AV from his laptop either.

I'd say he's full of it . . . although I didn't watch the whole spiel. I guess I should go back and see what else he's got to say.

If it seems like it's too good to be true, it most likely is.

He used Malwarebytes to scan his computer for Malware and 134 items came up but didn't use it to remove the malware, instead using something called "Tron Script" Why didn't he use MB to remove the malware , instead of downloading additional programs to do this same task? I am a bit confused as a novice. This Tron Script downloads something called "McAfee Stinger" Part of this Tron Script is using CCleaner as well. When he opens his task manager at the end of the video , he disables BitTorrent Web but leaves something called "Program" enabled which doesn't appear to be a valid startup..

That's a servicing tool - which may or may not help "while bumping into specific issues (like - some troublesome malware - which managed to bypass your current AV). It's not meant for a basic user - and definitely not as replacement for an AV solution (safest bet for a novice). Point being - it can also brake things. Even tho it uses Windows Restore as a preventive feature - it can still be a hassle (or a waste of time). Again, sometimes it does help - but you'd have to be a bit of an idiot to recommended it as a replacement for AV. As even the Author of this script pointed out:

"Tron is a tool for technicians and technically-minded people; if you don’t know how to fix your computer without tron, you shouldn’t be using tron to fix your computer. No matter what your friend or some idiot on a YouTube video told you, tron is not and never has been intended to be run by people who do not understand the technology behind it. If, after reading the entirety of tron's documentation, you do not understand what tron is doing and how tron is doing it, you should not be using tron. If you persist in your desire to run tron, don't say you haven't been warned."

Full of BS. Tron script can trash a computer from what things I have read in the past.

Edit: OK, I watched a guy who tried Tron Script, and after many glitches, he was finally through some 14 hours later. From 12:xx PM to 2:xx AM the next morning.

Personally, I would never use it, since it "discovered" a whole lot of malware the reviewer wasn't aware of. For me, that's suspect. It also looks like TS called on lots of freeware AV/Anti Malware apps you can get for yourself.

The few times I've had malware on my computer, a free MalwareBytes app took care of it without jumping through the hoops TS requires.

I wouldn't suggest this one to my worst enemy, and since you say you're a novice, I would advise against any consideration of this one at all.

With a clean install I "know" that I'm starting with essentially a "new" PC.

This is why we use backup software.

That TRON script just downloads and uses some valid tools. But as you can see... it takes a long time, and requires a lot of user intervention in the "prelude" to actually running the script.

It's far easier, just to restore from a backup. That's a 3rd party backup, not System Restore.

3rd party backup software is...
"Faster than a speeding re-install, stronger than any TRON script, and able to leap tall computer problems, at a single bound".

If your computer is infected with a rootkit, a clean install will not remove "all" infections !! The key word is "all" !

With Macrium installed on the Pro9, you should be able to backup to any external device with enough space.
Even with Macrium NOT installed, you can use the Macrium bootable rescue media to do that.

Generally, you want to backup to a device (drive), that "doesn't" have Windows installed on it.
That way... if the Windows drive, physically dies, you still have your backups.

That way... you can replace the drive that died, and use the bootable rescue media to restore your most current backup to the replacement drive.

This is a replacement Pro 9.
The first one went bananas when I did a Recovery from a backup on a RE stick. It went into repair mode and never got to desktop. Just the blue screen with the repair choices.

This is my desktop computer. I can save backups to any location "other" than Disk 0, or to any external drive I have hooked up.
Then, if Disk 0 dies... I can be back up and running, in a few minutes.

I just replace Disk 0, and then use the Macrium bootable media, to restore one of my backups to the "new" Disk 0.

All you have to remember is not to save your backups on the same Disk that Windows is installed on.

Most of the regulars use Macrium Reflect.
A 2nd choice that's used a lot is AOMEI Backupper Standard.

If I still had my Gateway 2000 4DX2-66V (Desktop) from 1992; this might be useful. It would probably take several days to download tron script and rkill via dial-up. With only 16mb of RAM it might take more than 12 hours to remove all of the malware and viruses I have on my PC due to countless hours on AOL.
