Thought this topic needed a thread of its own.
I've just run a trial install of 120b1, and didn't like a couple of things: the message list was much too spread out from top to bottom (per message), partly because the star icon for starred messages had its own line. Dumb. And none of the three add-ons I'm using in 115.4.1 worked. Reworking the Bird in such a way that everything that used to work no longer does is a poor choice.

Have you verified if the addons you want to use aren't hard coded to a max version that is lower than 120?

@johnlgalt : Only if I reinstall it. Is there something you'd like to know that would motivate me to put it back in? It's no big deal to put in a portable and then take it out again, but I just wondered why you were curious.

The vertical space for each message listed in the message list window was waaay too much space, and the star had its own line.

Happy to do it. Just say the word.

Nope. But me, m'fren', I got no probs with the current 115.4.1.

I have not. I'm not interested enough to do much more. I was just verrry disappointed in the 120 beta I tried.

I'm trying to see which section you're referring to, because I don't have that issue in Stable 115, Beta 120, nor Daily 121.

So I"m curious what you were seeing, it may simply be you need to resize the star column.

I'm using 120b1 with no problems that you describe. Everything is just the same as in 115.4.1. Are you using compact density? I use compact density and this css code:

line-height: 1.65em !important;
}

1.65em works great for me. Adjust to fit your needs.

As far as the addons not working you have to go into the manifest.json and change the max version to 120. For example in Compact Headers extension change this:

I've reinstaled 120 and attached shots of it and my 115 installation. Thanks for the clues about the manifest.json files. I'm not sure how to access the .json files for these add-ons. I can open and edit them once I can find them.

As you both can see, I prefer the Cards view to the Table view, and I don't use the Message Pane; I just open messages in a new tab.

Your suggestions for adjusting the height of the message entry are welcome. I'll try a version of your code, Lt., and report.

I've got all three Extensions working now, after editing their manifest.json files. Thanks, @ltsnow.

I'll try substituting cards for table in your code and see whether anything happens.

Ahh, I'm using the compact view. Makes sense I'm not seeing it.

Heck, IIRC, Outlook did something stupid in a similar view like you're showing, which made me change it to a compact view as well lol.

And there may be a valid reason for it - assuming that, in that view, the subject line is clickable to open the email, having them on the same line can cause issues with people trying to star the message and inadvertently clicking just a hair off to the left and hitting the subject line. I suspect that is why it has it's own dedicated space.

Compact view just scrunches my folder pane, without doing much to the message list (a little; not much).
Changing table to cards did nothing, as I suspected, but it was worth a try. I'd really like to hear from @das10 again, and see whether he ~~she~~ they can come up with anything.

My screenshots are with compact view, and all three are screenshots of the message list pane.

I'm trying to find the view / layout to make mine look like yours, so I can give you steps to make it look like mine.

Ahhh, found it. I'm using table view, not cards view.

I typically use table view + Classic layout for the message pane preview, which I can turn on or off with F8.

If you want to try Table view like I have it set, use the icon at the top right of the message view pane:

Also, not worried about that email address - it's ancient, and literally used as a honeypot now lol.

After you set View > Layout > Vertical and untick Message pane, your message list header should have a wee icon way over on the right, to the right of the Quick Filter button, and that gives you the choice of Table or Cards.

@johnlgalt Yeah, I get a nice one-line view of the message list in both Classic and Vertical layouts (no diff beween the two if Message Pane is OFF), and in Table View, setting Density to Compact really scrunches both my folder pane and the message list, while in Cards View, only the folder pane gets scrunched. The stupid star still has its own line.

I have the star as a column separate from the subject column in table view.

I suppose it depends upon whether you want the card view or not. I wonder if there is additional CSS that could move the star onto the subject line in card view, I believe it should be doable.
