Is there any way to increase the size of the area shown in the image below highlighted in yellow? Compared to the huge main area at the top with the big red 'X' to close Thunderbird, when I view an email, the top area of the email is tiny.

I have tried changing the font size in Thunderbird but it doesn't alter that area, my PC is already on 175% scaling which is fine for everything else and I have tried using different themes but they are all the same.

I'm currently on the latest version 115.9.0 (64-bit) of Thunderbird. Any Thunderbird guru know any tweak how I can adjust this area?

The size of my Windows controls icons in the main app and in an open message are the same size, so there is some custom setting at work with your TB install. It looks like you have made some customizations in the appearance of TB so maybe you made some change that needs to be undone.

Try setting up and switching to a different Profile and see if that makes the sizes the same. If it does then that may help is tracking it down, or configure the new Profile to be your active one.

That yellow highlighted item is a Window Titlebar and its height/font-size is governed by Windows. It normally behaves according to your Windows System settings.

The big red "X" icon you mention is larger as it is rendered by Thunderbird (and not Windows) because you have hidden the System Toolbar in the main T-bird Window. However, the "Hide System Window Titlebar" setting in Thunderbird only works on the main T-bird Window, and currently doesn't appear to work in any new Windows spawned from it (such as Writing Emails or reading emails in new Windows etc) , so those new Windows still get the standard Windows Titlebar.

So it is not possible to change the size of that "yellow area" in isolation. The only way to change it is to do it globally for all Windows, using eg. one of the Tutorials or one of the WinTools applications.

What he said! 👆

(It'll change all Windows Title Bars, though!)

OK, thanks. I've had a play. The advanced System Font Changer app changed everything to 16pt. It was originally 9pt but It wouldn't let me change it, kept defaulting to 16pt. Thankfully I made a Macrium backup before playing. I also tried various reg tweaks, but none of them seemed to work. I did find some reg files on MajorGeeks but they didn't work either. And yes, I rebooted after altering the registry.

Thunderbird seems to be the only title bar that seems so narrow. And no, I've not done any tweaking to Thunderbird. It must be due to the 3840x2160 screen display resolution.

Guess it is something Ill have to live with. Thanks for the suggestions folks.

I found the fix thanks to another post on this great forum.

I changed the following reg entry "CaptionHeight" from its default 334 to 534.

Code:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics

I'll mark this post as solved.
