Start with Inbox (SWI) worked worked fine until Mozilla updated Thunderbird to v148.0. There doesn't seem to be an alternative to SWI so does anyone know if it is a simple thing to install the previous version of Thunderbird (v147.0.2) over the latest version (v148.0) or do I have to uninstall TB v148.0 first and start from scratch?
Update - I installed a replacement add-on Startpoint Manager, which seems to work okay. I am not suggesting others use the same. Just saying that it seems to work okay for now by opening TB at the Inbox so I will see how it performs going forward.
I found another way to get Thunderbird to always start on inbox without an extension.
Session.json in your profile folder is the file that keeps track of what folder you last had open when Thunderbird was closed/exited.
What I did was selected the inbox then closed Thunderbird.
Went to session.json then right-click >properties and ticked the "Read Only" box.
Now Thunderbird always opens on Inbox as Thunderbird cannot change what folder it was on when closed/exited.

Update FYI - It worked for a while but TB update to v149 on 24th March reverted session.json to be not read-only. To avoid having to keep messing with this file attributes I have reinstalled the add-on Startpoint Manager and all is okay again.
I have never had that happen.
I do not have the Mozilla update service installed so if you are using that perhaps that has super permissions or something.
I also have both set to not automatically install updates but to just check for updates.
Firefox and Thunderbird still update without the service installed.

Same here. Thunderbird seems to always open in the inbox because that's where I usually left off while I was logged in.
Even with manually checking for updates, I usually update it, anyway. I check the changelog first before I do, even though I'm using Thunderbird ESR and being on ESR lessens any potential drama I might have to deal with.
