Time switch Dev to Beta channel as recommended before WU release Windows 11 next week ?

I checked at Windows Insider Program in the settings, see pic below.

What do you think ? time switch from dev to beta channel now ?

I think I'll wait until MS releases W11 officially but list shows all insider versions as available to receive W11 update. It's also a question how many actual insider versions of W11 will be.

Is it worth keeping my current Windows 10 Insider VM to preserve it or should I update it to 11?

Since you are already an insider I'd say it's worth switching as W10 insider is not likely to be exciting. They'll throw everything into 11 now. Also since you are insider you are at least curious about development.

Absolutely yes. Clone it and upgrade one and don't upgrade the other - because Microsoft has also said that 21H1 is coming this fall. So it would be interestingto see how this plays out - 2 sets of IP builds, one for 10 and one for 11, or what?

Your current IP build (and cloning it to run 2 of them SxS) will be invaluable information going forward.

Wonder if we'll be able to do a repair install of Windows 10 over Windows 11.
Also, I got the impression the beta channel would come some time after the dev channel release of 11.

My Win11 Upgrade still has the Windows.old on it - just in case.

But I didn't think of a repair install over. 11. Food for thought.

Dev Channel will provide preview builds which are earliest in development. These builds will contain the latest features and changes implemented by developer team. These builds will not match any specific upcoming Windows 10 version. Features and changes present in these builds might become a part of any future Windows 10 release.
Beta Channel will provide more stable builds. The builds released to this channel will be tied to a specific upcoming release of Windows 10. Users will face less bugs and issues in these builds.
Release Preview Channel will provide preview builds which will be released as the next version of Windows 10 in coming days. These builds will be reliable, stable and can be used on primary machines.

Frankly I can't see point of being an Insider and staying on Beta. Although Dev versions can be a bit unpolished, it is pretty rare these days you get major issues.

Either be safe and be on RP channel, or live dangerously on Dev Channel. What is point of being halfway?

Beta is probably the "safer" option for those intending to "hop off the bus" when Windows 11 hits release date. Dev probably better for those intending to continue to be active Insiders as the Dev channel may be ahead of the Windows 11 release version in terms of features in testing.

Beta makes much more sense if you want to try out 11 and not face the issues that are occurring in the Dev channel. I switched from Dev to Beta yesterday so I could use11 and not have the issues found in the Dev.

To me, at least. that the way I'll go.. stay in the beta until the 5th and then I'll jump out of the insider program.
