Windows 11
After getting quite stable run with some tricks and reghacks, now might be the best time to customize and personalize Windows 11 and make it your very own operating system that is unique. Here are some helps that are pretty usable:

Those "patchers" can help to install and apply new themes for Windows 11. After Windows 11 patched, download themes from trusted sources like Deviant Art, DeviantArt - The Largest Online Art Gallery and Community

And for the people who are not satisfied with how the Windows 11 File Explorer looks, can use and install OldNewExplorer, get it here; Download OldNewExplorer - MajorGeeks

I also using Rainmeter to beautify my Windows 11 Desktop, get it here: Rainmeter, desktop customization tool

Last but not least, we also can customize the look of the icons in our computer. Some are available from many sources online, some of us are creating their own icons like we can see here in this forum, a thread by @davidvkimball : Custom Icons for Windows 11

Other source of icon packs can be seen here: https://skinpacks.com/category/iconpack/

Do you know other software for this purpose? Please let us know.
Thank you.

IIRC, at one point (perhaps with the original Windows 7 UxPatcher utility) you had to revert to unpatched files before taking on a system update (such as a Service Pack release). I stopped using them before Win 10 came around.

Does this still hold true for 10, and more importantly, 11 (seeing as we're getting releases once a week, that would be extra work lol).

Also, I already use Namazso's OpenHastTab for file hashing and verification directly from the Windows Explorer context menu (via properties), so I like his stuff.

Of the 3 patchers mentioned, which works best in 11, and seeing as how Namaxso's SecureUxTheme doesn't actually change system files (as noted on the GitHub page) is this a more preferable method?

Now that that is out of the way, I mentioned these in a post on a thread a while back, but I'd like to call them out again.

GitHub - ModernFlyouts-Community/ModernFlyouts: A modern Fluent Design replacement for the old Metro themed flyouts present in Windows. - superb looking flyouts that really fit the Win 11 styling and design. I, personally, have not had issues with them, even when gaming, but you can peruse the issues section to see that some issues do seem to exist.

GitHub - TranslucentTB/TranslucentTB: A lightweight utility that makes the Windows taskbar translucent/transparent. - makes the entire taskbar into a few different methods (for those of us not actually replacing the taskbar with other utilities like docks).

Both of these are also available directly from the Microsoft Store, too.

I use SecureUXTheme because indeed it doesn't modify any system file. With the other "patchers," I've just tried about 1 hour ago, after patching I run System File Checker, and all the patched files reverted back. Any Windows update could do similar thing, I think. The only pro that I've got from UXThemePatcher is can apply 3rd party theme directly from double-click after installed. Might be handy if we're using it on the retail build/final version.

I still digging and tinkering much about this operating system. Had a bad experience recently after having more than 2200 registry keys occupied my startup folder and continuously asking for mouse clicks and/or keyboard entry. I have no idea what I was wrongly edited. Haha.. :D

UXThemePatcher not required to replace icons.

It changes the icons in the system .dll and it will be overwritten after the update. Maybe I am mistaken.

A message to all.

This thread, and these forums, are here to provide information to those who want them.

If you do not like what someone else posts regarding their own personal preferences, please at least have the respect to just move along to another topic / thread.

Every person is entitled to like what they like and dislike what they dislike. Edwin makes some really, really cool modifications to Windows OSs, and has for a very, very long time, and is eager to share his knowledge and suggestions. So does BlacXarea, though he is not nearly as well known to me. And plenty of other people as well.

Understanding why they like what they do is no more crazy than trying to understand why anyone else likes what they do - because to really understand, you'd have to try to understand what every other person on the planet likes and why they like what they like.

It's futile.

I am pretty enamored with the Win11 experience OOB, and have added a few minor touches to make it more like I want - completely transparent taskbars, Modern Flyouts for all the lock keys, volume adjustment, etc, and mini-taskbar popups (a la Bins, but working on Win11). I have 0 uses for folders on taskbars, or a classic start menu, because if I ever interact with the start menu, I type in an app to find - I don't use the mouse to find apps. The context menu from the start button needs work - I can't use keyboard shortcuts to open those items and am forced to use the mouse - but that doesn't mean I'm going to ask someone who likes it like this why they like it like this instead of the old Windows 10 way.

These people spend a lot of time and effort to make things look the way that *they* like. Just show some appreciation, and if not, just move on,.

Thank you.

I'll second it. Each person got a taste, and there's no other person can control that.
We're here to share experience and knowledge, seeking for help and/or troubleshoot.
NOT, AND NEVER TO JUDGE OTHERS based on our personal point of view.

Well said, Sir! (y)

I don't necessarily do it to show off, I do it to show what awesomeness Windows is capable of!
I'm an architect/designer by past trade; I studied Victorian architecture and I just love that rich heritage stuff!

I find it exciting when I can emulate that onto a computer screen!

The explorer.exe hack..., but some things are irreversibly screwed up, so I wouldn't suggest it!

Probably best, unless you've got a machine that you can wipe clean every time.

I know, over at Stardock, they're pretty p*ssed about having to re-write their software all over again!

Ahhh, now it makes sense. I had no idea you were an architect by trade before.

I've always toyed with getting that animated Matrix WP as my background. Even toyed with using it as a screen saver lol.

I might do that later on if I get a urge to, so thanks for the links!
