Is there a way of deactivating the touchpad in Windows 11 *when typing*? When I type the mouse jumps all over the screen causing havoc, probably due to the palms of my hands touching the touchpad.

go to Settings> Bluetooth & devices>Devices,> then locate Touchpad options
Under Touchpad sensitivity, click on > Advanced touchpad settings.
In the Touchpad settings window, click on the > Touchpad tab.
Under taps, click on the Settings button.
In the taps window, you should see an option called"Disable touchpad while typing." Uncheck this option to turn off the feature.
Save the changes, restart pc,

Hi @ETobias and welcome to ElevenForum.

Yeah, go into mouse settings and tell the mouse pad to deactivate when a real mouse is present.

I think I saw that @glasskuter gave advice. Most likely she's already got it covered, so feel free to ignore me. :-)

Most Notebooks have a hardware setting of the Fn key plus another F key used to disable the Touchpad outside of an Operating System. My wife disables hers and uses a USB Wireless mouse.

Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > Touchpad > Off.

Most Laptops have one of the Function keys allocated for Touchpad Off/On.
Fn+F5 or F10 on mine.

I can't claim knowing that as I have no touchpad devices (and probably wouldn't have known it anyway) That's a co-pilot answer. I just hope it works. If it doesn't I'll take the blame for giving bad information. Then I'll go and kick co-pilot off my machine.

Sometimes you have to get pretty specific with Copilot in order to get an accurate answer.
