Unable to enable "Get the latest updates as soon as they're available"

In Settings / Windows Update this option is greyed out. The claimed reason is "This setting isn't available due to your organisation's policy". This is on Win11 Pro 22H2 build 22621.1848, and the machine has never been part of a domain, just my home PC. When I use gpedit to view Computer Configuration / Administrative Templates / Windows Components / Windows Update, all the settings under there are "Not configured", and similarly there is nothing set in the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate. Suggestions on how to fix this?

If you're on a managed device, this setting will be disabled and grayed out. :(

Run this command in an Admin CMD window.

reg query "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Update"

If anything's listed, then you have at least one policy setting. And Settings App will always report it can't change anything, since it can't override Group Policy.
In that case, you will have to update individual WU settings using Registry Editor or from a specific reg file.

All it takes is one policy setting to disable the Settings App.

I get:

ERROR: The system was unable to find the specified registry key or value.

But I know I have several policies set on my Win 11 computer.

Still get

I know I've set several policies and I'm able to see them when I run this command:

gpresult /Scope User /v (and also with /scope computer)

I must have something wrong on this machine.
