Hello,
I have hardware which can support 4k at 60Hz, but I am unable to set this setting in windows.
My hardware is :
- Intel N100
- SMART TECH 4K Android TV 43UA20V3
- A 8k capable hdmi cable

My graphic driver is up do date (october 2023)
I can only set to 1980x1060 @ 60Hz OR 3840x2160 @ 30Hz

Thank you

Seem like it should be available.

Does the TV want a special HDMI input for a computer connection? A quick glance at its manual wasn't informative.

I see that it's a PAL/SECAM model, not an NTSC one as would be sold in North America.

I sort of figured that with a PAL/SECAM TV that you weren't in the US.

Looking at the specs for your TV, I believe that no PC-friendly port exists. All 3 ports are supposed to be HDMI 2.0, which ought to support 3840X2160 @ 60Hz.

I have no idea why you're being shown settings that would be consistent with HDMI 1.4.

If you connect your PC via HDMI, you need to make sure that you use a 4K compatible cable, otherwise only 30fps will be transferred at 4K resolution.

Looking at Amazon.co.uk, I see one of the review comments was:

As far as I know, the pinouts of an older "high speed" cable (suitable for HDMI 1.4 or before) are identical to an HDMI 2.0 cable. I'm not sure what would happen if you tried to connect a PC to a TV using a cable that can't manage HDMI 2.0 specs. I'd be pleased if PC graphics could detect a cable that wasn't up to the task, and scale back the bandwidth to match.

The only experience I've had was with an audio/video setup. 4k BluRay player connected to an AV receiver, and that connected to a UHD TV. With some inadequate cables, I couldn't get a menu display. (The BluRay player's menu required more bandwidth than a movie.)

@contremaitre

You might be able to adjust the frequency using the screens own hardware menu rather than from windows. There's often a "best fit" option which should cure it. You'll probably need the handset - but you might be able to do it manually.

cheers

About HDMI cable certifications:

Most 4k TVs have multiple HDMI input ports on them, but it can happen that not all of these ports are capable to support 60Hz in 4k so you need to check on that. Another thing to note is that, to reset a HDMI cable connection, it can happen that both ends of the cable need to be physically unplugged before you plug the cable back in so, simply moving one end of the cable from one port over to another port does not necessarily always reset the connection properly, which can cause a lot of confusion sometimes.

I already checked that your mini PC does indeed have a motherboard that supports 60Hz in 4k. (Even if the CPU has an iGPU that supports it, it can happen that the motherboard still doesn't, especially if it's cheap, but yours does support it AFAIK.)

Have you updated the BIOS to its latest version? Also, go on Intel.com website, download and install the DSA (Driver Support Assistant). Let it check for driver updates and choose to let it install the driver updates that it finds. Especially if the graphics driver you have is outdated, this could be the potential remedy.

If the problem is fixed, after you set the display resolution to 4k you should be able to select 60Hz from the list shown in Option Two, Step 7 here.

P.S., with some TVs apparently there exists an option in the TV's setting that limits the capabilities of one or more of its HDMI input ports so it is possible that you need to enable something like, e.g., "enhanced mode" for the port in question.

Hello,
I found a way to get 4k@60Hz : I need to unplug/replug the hdmi cable from the TV, after windows boot.
If I restart the computer it still works, but if I shut down / power on again, then I have to unplug the cable because it reverts to 30Hz.
I tried to start with TV on or off there is no difference.

So this is a bit frustrating. Is there a way to reset the HDMI connection at startup from windows, with a script maybe, to avoid this cable manipulation ?

I checked the intel control panel. It always show my TV is 4k@60Hz capable (see screenshot), even when windows won't let me apply it. But there is no way to change resolution settings from this app, there is only a button to open windows display settings.

So is there a way to reset hdmi connection from software ?
Not that I am aware of. See if deleting the monitor drivers in Device Manager helps:
Also in Device Manager, choose View ➜ Show hidden devices. Hidden devices appear on the list with their icon greyed out. Deleting the drivers of the monitors in this manner is safe, as Windows automatically detects monitors and reinstalls them as needed.

P.S., if that still doesn't help either, maybe you could try doing a clean install of the Intel Graphics driver: Clean Installation of Intel® Graphics Drivers in Windows*

I deleted all monitor including hidden ones, no change.
I tried what is suggested in the post you linked, it does not work and I can't create a custom resolution like he said, because you can't do that with intel drivers (or I don't know how).
Then I tried a clean install of driver downloaded from intel website. I now have a driver version from December 2023, but it does not solve my issue.

In the HDMI input related settings of the TV itself, did you look for the "Enhanced format" or similar type option?

Depending on the TV it could also be something like this:
