Unable to sign into Solitaire

When I try to sign in to Windows Solitaire I get this message:
Internet Connection Problem
We're having trouble connecting to the Solitaire service.
Would you like to try again?

My Internet connection is fine; I can connect with other apps with no issue.

How do I check the status of the Solitaire service??

My wife gets that message at times. When it happens, it has always been with MS and not our internet. Like I tell her, the problem has to be fixed on their end.

Connect to the internet, to run Solitaire? Never heard of such a thing!!! Why?

I do love to play old "Sol.exe" just like I did back in 1990. (pre windows)
I play it in Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, and now Windows 11.
All I need is two files....Sol.exe and Cards.dll.
I put those two files in my root directory, or some other choice directory, and then create a shortcut of Sol.exe to the Desktop.
Then I just run Solitaire from the shortcut on my desktop.

If this is not what you need, maybe it will help someone else who also loves to play old Sol.

Because MS wants to make it a pay to play game. My wife loves playing it and a few other MS games. If it was up to me, I would tell MS to stick their games somewhere uncomfortable.

@Murray Sobol, did you ever get Windows Solitaire working? My wife tried playing it earlier today and had one heck of a time getting past the ad.
