Unique SID's Are Actually Required.

There's a well-known WMIC command for returning the system SID, but as we all know... WMIC is going away.

PowerShell method:
Code:
powershell "(New-Object System.Security.Principal.NTAccount('Administrator')).Translate([System.Security.Principal.SecurityIdentifier]).Value -Replace('.{4}$')"
If there were duplicate SIDs, this would return more than one result?

In the case of duplicate SID's, every PC would return the exact number for all the digits. Every time you install Windows, it randomizes the SID so the numbers aren't even close to another.

Microsoft mentioned on their web site that if you back up your computer to an image and restore it back, which I do often at times, that this could cause duplicate SIDs. Not sure if this correct or not. I may be overthinking it to cause my own confusion.

A full system backup will capture the system's SID, because it's embedded in the registry. Restoring a previous backup to the same computer over and over, doesn't create a "duplicate SID". Your PC still has the same SID as it had before.

Thank you all for clearing the duplicate SID for me.

I wonder if NEWSID still works for fixing this issue?
