My current BIOS is from 2024 the latest appears to be:

I have never updated a motherboard in the last 30 years of computing, what is the best and easiest way to update?

Make SURE which motherboard you have. "Prime" is an ASUS model name.

Use CPU-Z to get your System Specs...

CPU-Z (free), will show you make/model for everything except: drives, case and power supply. You'll need to add make/model for monitor, keyboard and mouse as well. That info should be easy to find. Portable version: https://download.cpuid.com/cpu-z/cpu-z_2.17-en.zip

The PRIME H610M-A WIFI D4 is an Asus motherboard, not Gigabyte. (The hash code that you list for the latest BIOS verifies that.)

If you try to flash a BIOS for the wrong motherboard, the flash utility should not allow it.

If it's really the Asus board, I'd just follow the EZ Flash instructions in its downloadable manual.

There is a very small possibility that a failed update could brick the motherboard. Asus includes a BIOS recovery method, which I've never had to use.

I also use ASUS EZ Flash. Never had any problems.
Just make sure you don't try flashing the BIOS in a thunderstorm, or anything else that may knock out your power.


Here's ten points for filling out your computer specs. I trust you'll "finish" doing that. :-)

Good.

One minor suggestion: safety would be ensured if the PC is on a UPS. Not really necessary if your mains power doesn't suffer interruptions.

I recall reading a post a few years ago from a guy who had trouble because his dog unplugged the PC during a flash. It might be good to keep large pets and small children out of the room while doing the flash. ;-)

On my system (ASUS board & AMI UEFI/Bios), the EZ flash update tool is designed to recognise zip files - i.e. the original dowloaded file rather than an unzipped folder. Also, for my Z890-PRO WIFI board, the Intel ME update is included in the zip file, and it's recognised and applied in the same operation to ensure it's updated to the correct version. This, or similar information, may be available on the Asus site for your board version.

yes unzip it and the usb stick probably needs to be formattted fat32 for the bios update tool - ezflash to find it

You need to unzip the file. The USB drive must be formatted as FAT32. (FAT16 would be OK too, but old school.)

The advice about Bitlocker is good. I forgot to mention it because I don't use Bitlocker.

BIOS updates are cumulative, except when they aren't. I don't see any indication that you need to do any updates prior to flashing the latest one. If you needed to flash an older BIOS first, EZ Flash should not proceed with flashing the latest.

The ME tool is a separate utility. I presume that it should be run after updating the BIOS. Unzip the utility, and run the .exe file.

For safety, your USB should be FAT32, it's the standard for UEFI (Unless things have changed nowadays).
Supposedly, it should be as simple as decompressing the zip contents into the root of the flashdrive (no subfolders), entering bios with USB plugged in, using the built in utility and follow instructions.

Also, I would follow safety meassures:
- No other people or pets allowed when you flash your PC
- You should have a UPS in case of power loss

That should make it safer for you to flash your BIOS. It's quick and simple nowadays, but I still drop a little sweat when I do lol...

I assume you wanna flash a new BIOS because of Microsoft's CA 2023 Certs thing, otherwise, if your system runs fine, updating BIOS should only be done if you experience issues with your system...

I haven't checked whether the PRIME H610M-A WIFI D4 has the capability to save BIOS settings, but it may.

However, I've found that some settings are not saved for some motherbooards.
