Updates are underway.........
I updated my pc with the new system update. I went away from the computer for a while when I got back I forgot the computer needed to be restarted. Instead, I ran the system tool that
@antspants posted last year (?) It was about half-way through the list of tests (can't remember which one) and hung up at 3.8%. I stopped the test and restarted the computer.
It gives me the message "Updates are underway, Please keep your computer on", stays that way for a while, restarts, and then comes back to the same message. I have a dual-boot with Linus Ubuntu but it skips that menu, which is unusual.
Should I do a cold restart?

Some updates can restart 2 or 3 times.
I'd just leave it alone for a while (maybe an hour) and recheck.

I think it's restarted about 5 or 6 times so far. I've just never had it take so long after a system update.
If worse comes to worse, I can always reformat the system. This isn't my main computer so I don't keep much on it.

It's a classic problem with Linux dual boot. Updates rewrite the EFI boot order and disable grub which gets stuck in reboot loop when the update fails.
