Updating Files on my Newish WD My Passport External

Trying to update a folder on this WD Red Drive, but when i goto delete a folder or delete some of the files, and paste the new files in--it gives an error Fatal Hardware Error, already checked the drive with Western Digital Diagnostics

What else should i do?

Have you check the HDD for bad sectors.

In Command Prompt, enter the following command: chkdsk E: /r /x command.

Make sure to replace E: letter with HDD letter.

Ok Will do that asap here--haven't yet, but yeah thinks needs done for sure now, second time this drives did this

Have you considered it might be the cable or connector at the PC side (USB or whichever port type).

Well i do have a longer spare cable if it checks out with Chkdsk, didn't consider the cable til now

it is plugged into 4 Port USB hub usually, but i can try the longer cable, and see if it works better with that

as one rear port is taken up by my 2.5Gig usb ethernet adapter, on the fence on keeping that or not lol at this point

Well when an external device starts acting up I would also look at how it connects before assuming the device itself was faulty, especially a disk and even more so since you say this is the second time it has happened (same disk or different disks?).
The hub could be the issue, or too many devices plugged in causing some sort of cross talk etc.
As for 2.5GB in the home unless you are lucky enough to have one of the forward thinking ISPs and can afford the extra connection speed then that interface is mainly for on site backup devices and the like, at least for the majority of home users, IMHO.

I am fairly certain your USB hub can't handle the load. Also is the HUB using external power? It could be as simple as a power issue.

Yes the hub uses external power.

The Western digital my passport externals are bus powered, chkdsk still running on said drive.

Second time happened with this drive in last week, was simply attempting to sync purchased music folder with all 3 externals, was finding latest sync on Blue My passport, then when I tried to transfer said updated folder to Red My Passport then Error

Did have Blue passport drive connected same time as Red my passport drive. And 3rd external Seagate 8tb in a new enclosure, but that one AC powered

Only have 1 rear usb port available with the 2.5gig usb ethernet adapter in use, rest occupied, Guess could try red my passport in the available front usb 3.0 port next time

Will post chkdsk results once finished

Will change the cable asap here, and hopefully all is good after this lol, or maybe not run 2 Bus Powered and 1 AC powered External at same time again with this usb 3.0 hub lol
