Updating Win10 to Win11 - Difference between 23H2 and 24H2?

After putting off updating to Win11 on a number of machines I've now decided it's time to sort it out. A couple of machines are older laptops and wouldn't pass the hardware test for Win11 but I'm going to follow the advice on her to get round that.

However, I have also read a few articles and seen on YouTube many people advising that 23H2 is better than 24H2. Not sure why that would be the case but does seem like there were some big changes with 24H2 which perhaps a lot of people weren't happy with.

I've often stuck with "older" versions of some of my favourite software in the past rather than upgrade, mostly as the old version was familiar and I didn't need new functionality so am interested in views on 23H2 vs 24H2.

I always like to know what's new so will take a look.

I don't know if this is relevant to anyone's views but I should also mention that I'm intending doing clean installs, not in place updates.

May I add that 24H2 requires SSE4.2 and POPCNT instruction sets for the CPU, which stops PC from booting at all. This is important for PCs with very old CPUs. If you have a new system, then you should not bother.

Oh, that's interesting. I'll have to check the specs of my two old laptops. Both 12 yrs old but were high spec when bought (i5/i7 CPU's I think).

The other laptop is only 3 yrs old with an 11th Gen i7 and I know already meets Win11 minimum spec.

My Windows Server 2012 machine may not be up to it but will check anyway.

I have 14 years old second generation i7 (2600K CPU) and it is running Win 11 without problems. Your 12 yrs old i5/i7 CPU's will run 11 as well.
