I waiting for delivery of a new computer with Windows 11 and it that came with a Thunderbolt 4 slot.

I do not need a Thunderbolt hub, but could use additional USB-C slots. Can I inset a UBB-C hub into that Thunderbolt slot and receive the speed that I would normally receive with a USB_C connection?

Do you have a recommendation for such a USB-C hub that would fit the Thunderbolt 4 slot?

Hi, welcome.

Please tell us the exact model of computer?

There’s no real difference (except for possible speed differences), call it a Thunderbolt Hub or a USB-C Hub, they can both utilise the port, on condition you are buying the appropriate hub that can utilise the port.

Yes, the Thunderbolt port should simply accept a USB-C Hub or any other USB-C device (as far as I know)

Which ever type of Hub you decide on, get a good brand, like WAVLINK, Belkin, UGREEN or ORICO.
Or, for instance, if your computer is a DELL (because you haven’t told us) get a DELL hub. More expensive but it may be a better option. Do diligent homework, read reviews etc.

If it were me and it was for a Laptop, I’d buy a Docking Station. Not at all cheap for a good brand. But there would be pricing options.

The primary difference between a USB-C hub and a Thunderbolt hub lies in their transfer speeds and bandwidth capabilities. Thunderbolt hubs offer significantly higher transfer rates (up to 40 Gbps) compared to USB-C hubs (usually 5 Gbps or 10 Gbps). This makes Thunderbolt hubs ideal for tasks requiring high-speed data transfer, such as transferring large files, streaming high-resolution videos, or connecting multiple 4K displays. While USB-C hubs are sufficient for connecting peripherals, charging, and basic data transfer, Thunderbolt hubs provide more bandwidth for more demanding applications.

USB-C Hubs:
  • Transfer Speeds: Typically 5 Gbps or 10 Gbps.
  • Bandwidth: Lower than Thunderbolt.
  • Ideal for: Connecting peripherals, charging, and basic data transfer.
  • Examples: Connecting a mouse, keyboard, external hard drive, or charging your phone.

Thunderbolt Hubs:

  • Transfer Speeds: Up to 40 Gbps.
  • Bandwidth: Higher than USB-C.
  • Ideal for: Large file transfers, streaming high-resolution videos, daisy-chaining multiple 4K monitors, and using Thunderbolt docking stations.
  • Examples: Connecting multiple 4K monitors, using a Thunderbolt SSD, or connecting multiple peripherals for gaming

I recently got a Dell Latitude 5310 2-in-1 Notebook, the USB-C port is also Thunderbolt 3 over USB-C and the power port for the AC adapter.

My new computer is a Dell EBT2250. Can I insert an Anker USB-C hub into the Dell Thunderbolt 4 slot to work properly?

If like my Notebook then Yes but the issue with mine is no charging while using the Thunderbolt port. Mine would be easier using one of the USB 3 Type-A ports for the hub or other device.

Yes, the Thunderbolt port should simply accept a USB-C Hub or any other USB-C device

You really should consider reading the manual for your computer. Where it states:

NOTE: USB4 is backward compatible with USB 3.2, USB 2.0, and Thunderbolt 3.

So the answer would be yes, you should be fine..

Also, please, if you’re going to rattle off computers and devices, please remember to include model numbers.

Thought I did, but then I was under-the-gun to set up a new ink-tank printer for a client.
