USB mouse keeps randomly reconnecting

Hi all,

New to this forum (used to frequent Vista/Seven forums back in the day, so it's good to be back on here!)

Starting to pull my hair out over this one, as can't seem to figure it out!

My mouse started randomly disconnecting for a split second then reconnecting about 4 weeks ago. I'll just be working away, and the USB disconnect sound plays and I lose all mouse connectivity, then it reconnects.

I built this PC just over a year ago, MSI Z690 EDGE WIFI and the had the mouse for about 8 months (MSI CLUTCH GM20) and had no issues until recently.

Things I've tried

• Tried different USB ports - no difference (tried mobo and chassis USB ports)
• New mouse - no difference
• Reinstalled mouse drivers
• Upgraded from Win 10 to Win 11
• Updated BIOS
• Updated chipset drivers
• Changed some USB settings in BIOS

Only seems to be the mouse that is affected. Keyboard and webcam/mic are fine that are also plugged into the back of the mobo.

The only thing I can think of doing next is a clean install of Windows unless anyone else has any ideas?

You replaced the actual mouse itself and still have the problem? That is a puzzler! For the problem you described that would seem to be the most likely culprit.

Might sound obvious but in device mangler>human interface>usb input device>properties>power management see if allow power off is selected' There will be more than one usb device listed. Check them all. Also could look for any usb or mouse events in both device mangler and event viewer.

Might also want to think back to anything "else" that may have happened about 4 weeks ago.
New driver, new software, nasty lightning storm, repetitive power outage... pretty much anything.

And, as mentioned... check Event Viewer and Reliability History, for incidents back about 4 weeks ago.

I once had a similar problem that arose every time a USB 3.0 drive was plugged into a port near the mouse dongle. Do you have a drive plugged in?

Forgot to add that, yeah power management option is disabled to power off USB devices already.

Just had a look through Event Viewer, and nothing in there. Got a USB Log View program running and it logs the events, but just shows the mouse as being unplugged and plugged back in.

No USB drives plugged in. Only things I have USB wise are mouse, keyboard and webcam in the USB ports.

Nothing out of the ordinary, had a look through Event viewer, software install dates etc and nothing that I could attribute to it.

Tried a couple of things since starting the thread

Ran sfc /scannow and it picked up a corrupt bluetooth driver, so installed the latest Win 11 driver for that, so fingers crossed it might have been related somehow

TBH, I'd do a reinstall.

Hey John, great to see you, certainly been a while!

Yeah certainly leaning towards a clean install. Driving me mad now.

Yeah no worries with backups, got all my important stuff locked away. It was more just checking if I was missing something obvious with the issue!

I have the same problem, mouse and keyboard, for a month now.
Reinstall windows is not a solution for every small problem, come on

If you decide to do a clean install, I suggest trying a in place repair install first. If it doesn't fix the problem, you still have the clean install option to try.

If you have the disk space, you could also do a separate Windows installation. That way, if the new install does not work, you can still go back to your original install without have axed it.

But even before that, I would try to see if it works in Safe Mode. You might also try stopping things that automatically start, including temporarily stopping non-Microsoft services.

Thank god I am not a formatting "enthusiast" like you guys.
The problem is with the keyboard if I disconnect it, it goes away and the mouse and other keyboard work fine.
Apparently, even if it is connected it gives problems to other USB devices and makes them reconnect randomly.

It is a pity because I had this keyboard for about 10 years and it worked great. (Roccat ISKU)
I cannot remove its driver, it gives the error "An installation support file could not be installed"
And I cannot install it again or repair the driver for an error with InstallShield. (maybe clean windows install would fix this but...)
