The userChrome.css file to turn Firefox folders yellow does not work anymore starting with version 144.0. At least it has stopped working for me and ChatGBT says the same. I tried everything ChatGBT suggested to get them back but no luck. Anybody know of a new fix to turn the Firefox folder color back to yellow?

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 15 years?
Long ago (2018) I had the folder icons of the bookmarks yellow indeed.
So I searched what I did, tried to re-establish it and succeeded.
I had to change some selector codes to make it function again.

This is the code that should be added to your userChrome.css file:
Code:
/* Bookmarkmenu - make icons of folders yellow like in old Firefox */
/* Below the inline code for the yellow folder-icon */
/* Attention: leave that code complete! */
menu#bookmarksMenu menupopup#bookmarksMenuPopup menu.menu-iconic.bookmark-item .menu-icon
 {list-style-image: url(data:image/png;base64,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) !important;}

The result: pull-down bookmark menu has yellow icons now:

000744.webp

If you did not mean those folders but other ones, you'll have to specify what you want or post a screenshot.
But I cannot garantee I would find a solution.

And if you want the icons have other shapes, you'll have to search yourself for the inline code that belongs to the wished icons.

Kees,

Sorry for taking so long to respond. For some reason I'm no longer getting emails when someone posts a response.

Yes, those are the style of Icons I want and used before. When did you do this new code?

Did you mean the last line of code to go on almost forever?

Dale

Just before I posted the answer in #3. I did it specially for you, because already a long time I have accepted the new shape of the folder icons.

Don't know exactly what you mean by that, but you'll have to add the full code into your userChrome.css file. Does not matter if you put it at the beginning, somewhere in the middle or at the end of that file, as long as it does not 'break' other assignments in that file. Or it could be the only code in that file as well.

I have a rather large userChrome.css file because I have been setting Firefox to my personal desires. Including remarks it's about 540 lines... But every time when FF has a new version, I have to change it slightly, because they have changed/added something in/to the UI. That's why I am using the ESR version of FF, so that I have to change the userChrome.css file only once a year!

"To go on forever" is rather opportunistic, because FF tends to change things now and then.

Read all of this thread, the current solution is in there, I applied it myself, it works fine: Bookmarks Folder Icon

Don't try to change anything until you have read the whole thread.
