I am trying to install a program I had installed in Windows 10 and even Window 11 Home... but now when I try I get this pop up warning.

Screenshot (6).png

Because I am having trouble with other programs I think it's a Windows problem and not the program. How do I verify I have access to the directory and permission, etc...?

Thank you.

If you can confirm what the executable is, I can maybe look for it etc...

Thanks... why would one be on a remote PC? What does he mean by remote PC? It's on another PC not linked to mine?

You can always google search term you don't understand.

Look at the path to sldlM.exe where is the J: drive located it's mount point for sldlM remote computer where sldlM.exe executable access and lunched.

If you can confirm what the executable is, I can maybe look for it etc...

Try this website page. If you don't use search engines like Google or Bing much it is a key skill to develop. Modern search engines can usually understand any query asked.

The question asked is, what is the J: drive? Is it a install CD or USB Flash drive or is it an external or internal drive on your computer? Or is it a shortcut to a Network share? The sidlM.exe is the Executable file, can you browse to the j: drive and click that file to start the app?

Are the problems that you are having with other programs, also related to the J: Drive?

Try changing the drive letter of your DVD drive in disk management.

Start typing “Computer Management” in Windows search.
Click on the result
On the left of the Computer Management window, select Disk Management
When Disk Management opens you will see your drives like in this image.

Assume what you will see is your “J” drive.

Right click on the “J” drive and select “Change Drive Letter and Paths…”

IMG_4799.png

You will see this box open (but it will have J:)
Click “Change”

IMG_4800.png

Click the little drop down arrow and choose a different drive letter, for instance M:
You will only have the choice of drive letters that are not being used.

IMG_4801.png

After you select a new drive letter, click OK

Try running the setup.exe again. Or open then close the DVD tray and wait for the Autorun to start the install.
Autorun is a file/script that tells the DVD what to do, in this case start “Setup.exe - it runs when you close the DVD tray.

Failing this, disable/close your antivirus software if you have a 3rd party antivirus installed and try the setup.exe again.

Failing all the above, open Windows File Explorer
Go to your J: Drive (DVD Drive)
Right click on “Setup”
Select Run as Administrator.
Select OK when asked to run.

Executable files
An .exe is an executable file (Generally called Setup or install) that starts the install process of an installation for a program.
When looking at files in File Explorer, you will probably only see “Setup” (without the .exe) because of your File Explorer settings that tells Windows to hide extensions of known file types.
If hide extensions is disabled, you will see the whole filename which will be “Setup.exe”. You will see all the different extensions (for example .exe .dll .tmp etc etc) on all files in File Explorer.

Rather then us guessing, please answer the question
The question asked is, what is the J: drive?
If it a Optical Drive (ie) CD/DVD drive, the disc may be smudged or scratched.
Try the disc on another computers optical drive.

Rather then us guessing, please answer the question

If it a Optical Drive (ie) CD/DVD drive, the disc may be smudged or scratched.
Try the disc on another computers optical drive.
They did answer that. It’s a DVD drive.

What trouble?

Try changing the drive letter of your DVD drive in disk management.

Start typing “Computer Management” in Windows search.
Click on the result
On the left of the Computer Management window, select Disk Management
When Disk Management opens you will see your drives like in this image.

Assume what you will see is your “J” drive.

Right click on the “J” drive and select “Change Drive Letter and Paths…”

View attachment 102382

You will see this box open (but it will have J:)
Click “Change”

View attachment 102383

Click the little drop down arrow and choose a different drive letter, for instance M:
You will only have the choice of drive letters that are not being used.

View attachment 102384

Thanks, I'll give this a go.

It's a weird one as the programs installed no problem in Window 11 Home. But now with 11 Pro it's acting funny.

I'll keep digging also on the Solidworks forum... even though it's not just Solidworks.
