Vmware on Linux systems is easier but on Linux after any Linux kernel update you might find Vmware fails because it needs the correct kernel headers to be installed. Don't forget also on Windows Guests to install the Linux open vmware tools -- acts equiv to vmware tools on native windows - install on the guest. Also on Linux its easier to use TPM emulation for the TPM - your distro should have details of the correct packages to install -- and I'd also not use secure boot on the Guest either. !!!VMware Workstation Pro or Oracle VirtualBox for Linux (Guest) in Windows 11?
Many threads have been opened with the same question.VMware Workstation Pro or Oracle VirtualBox for Linux (Guest) in Windows 11?
Because the question is about Linux guests running on Windows. My gut feeling is though if on a Linus HOST why not run Windows VM's using the built in KVM/QEMU
I addressed that as well -- depending on what the VM needs to do - why not use Windows own built in virtualisation --Hyper-V as an alternative -- very efficient although apart from adding external USB physical disks and iso images it's fairly restrictive.Because the question is about Linux guests running on Windows.
Hyper-V is not the best tool for running Linux guests unless the guest can act as an XRDP server.I addressed that as well -- depending on what the VM needs to do - why not use Windows own built in virtualisation --Hyper-V as an alternative -- very efficient although apart from adding external USB physical disks and iso images it's fairly restrictive.

Why would you think an older version wouod be better thsn a newer version?Which VMware version IS THE BEST for Linux (Guest)? Latest or older?
Actually that depends on the GUEST you are using. VmWare in order to run Linux Guests requires the correct kernel headers for the Linux guest it's using as it does an online real time compile of a module at initial install time. Current latest Linux kernels (7.0.xxxx and later 6.19.xxxx) don't use X11 video server with XRDP / RDP protocol but Wayland instead which isn;t (yet) compatible with Windows RDP. For Linux GUESTS on Windows when you need a GUI use HYPER-V but you'll probably have sound issues and it's a bit more inflexible with regard to anything other than USB disk drives,Why would you think an older version wouod be better thsn a newer version?
Common sense dictates always use latest version but only try an older version if you get issues.
The OP clearly is a newbie to using vms. What is the point of overcomplicating things for a newbie?Actually that depends on the GUEST you are using. Then I am surprised at your questions.I'm using VM's more then 15 years almost 20.
And i HATE Hyper-V because no 3D-Acceleration. In Linux (Guest) in Hyper-V even sound not working.
