Vodafone Routers (UK) - Limited WebUI Settings Due to Super WiFi

Yesterday I started a new fibre broadband service with Vodafone (UK). I logged on to the Web UI interface on 192.168.1.1. I can only change the WiFi SSID name and paswword despite using Expert Mode. Everything else is greyed out. I want to have two SSIDs, one on 5 GHz and the other on 2.4GHz and be able to specify the broadcast channels.

Vodafone did mention something called 'Super WiFi' which they said they would disable at their end but I've seen no changes yet. Has anyone been able to configure the WiFi in detail for their Powr Hub?

You should contact the ISP because maybe they are forcing those settings. Also try updating router firmware.

Have done so - the issue is linked to their "Super WiFi" configuration which prevents anyone changing the defaults so decided by Vodafone.

"Super WiFi" refers to their add-on mesh booster option....

ISP provided "Routers" (Router/WAP/Mesh/Firewall etc) try and lock you in to their system which they support.

I have always used my own router, the ISP one being packed away as a reserve. You are then responsible for your own system.

Update: Vodafone upgraded me from the Power Hub to the more capable Ultra Hub, which does include 6 GHz Wi‑Fi. Unfortunately almost all Wi‑Fi settings are still greyed out because the router is running the Super WiFi provisioning profile. Only the SSID name and password can be changed.

Technical support told me “Super WiFi is enabled by design and cannot be changed.” My own research and other users’ experiences show this is incorrect. Super WiFi is controlled by the router’s provisioning profile, and Vodafone can remove it by pushing a new configuration.

At the moment the router has forced itself onto Channel 36, which overlaps with two neighbouring networks, while the rest of the 5 GHz band is almost empty. I’ve now lodged a formal complaint asking Vodafone to push a corrected provisioning profile to disable Super WiFi and restore full manual Wi‑Fi control.

I took a simpler solution. I just daisy chained a wifi 6 non vodafone router to vodafone router via a short lan to lan ethernet cable. Then I could setup wifi as I wished (two separate bands, dns etc.).

I needed to configure second router with a static ip address on same subnet as vodafone router and switch off dhcp on second router.

The impact of using two daisy chained routers is negligible in terms of speed.

The only slight downsides are a small overall power demand and cost of second router.

The upside is full flexibility and isolation against any firmware upa t of vodafone router updates.

That would work but don't have room on my small hall table for two routers and I need to keep tje Vodafone router for VOIP telephone.

I still use the vodafone for voip telephone as most third party routers do not have a voip socket (unless paying for an expensive one).

Having said that I turn off ringer on voip phone as I never use it except if I ever get a very unlikely situation where I cannot use a mobile phone. I turn off ringer as 99.9% of my incoming calls are spam.

Re. small hall table - that is, of course, a personal choice rather than a technical one. I guess aesthetics are not that important to me.

I did the same as @cereberus. I cannot split the bands into 5 and 2.4g on the router. I have some devices that can only connect to 2.4. I got a wireless extender/access point device and connected it to the router using Ethernet. The access point is configured to 2.4 only and I simply connect the devices to this instead of the router.

My personal experience of ISP provided routers, is that generally, they're nothing short of garbage. They are locked down to such an extent, you can barely do anything at all with them, which is kind of the point, as most home broadband users haven't got a clue about routers anyway, that is why they are designed to be plug and play, they work out of the box for most customers. I bought a WiFi 6 'gaming router' over 4 years ago, cost me 300 quid but it's been absolutely solid, not a single outage over two different ISP's. At least I can properly split off all my devices between 2.4 and 5ghz including using the Guest WiFi, plus I can change my DNS Resolver at router level rather than having to accept the ISP DNS Resolver and then muck about changing it on individual PC's etc. I'd point out also, we don't use or have a landline, it's all WiFi calling through the iPhone at home.
