1) Again, if you are choosing a VPN you want one that does not keep logs AND is audited by a reputable firm
2) In the event your VPN is sold, you would be notified and have the option of deleting your account (and since the original owners did not retain logs, there would be no data to share with the new owner)
3) Of course, in the event of an alien invasion all bets are off

Perhaps, I am naive, but I DO trust Proton VPN. I seldom use it because I seldom see the need to do so, but Proton does have a great reputation where user privacy is concerned.

Just my two cents. By the way, I also agree with @z3r010 that you should exercise due diligence when selecting a VPN provider. Not all VPN companies are as respective of user privacy.

With the notable exception of free Proton VPN, I'd avoid any free VPNs. They aren't to be trusted at all.

The problem with free Proton VPN is it's slow. But you can easily upgrade to a paid plan of theirs.
