Use Defender, the option is there for full scans. Either that or use whatever AV you want

But i can guarantee that Defender will not do the job the Special tools that the Malware Specialist will use to look into your computer to see if you are infected.

You may be right @flashh4 but if the Defender scans (plural) find that it needs help, then it will direct you to use Microsoft Safety Scanner or to some other tool as a follow up.

I also like the fact that Defender scans are cloud assisted, under your own control (you can use it for on-going routine maintenance) and that it is less personal / more anonymous.

No doubt that the 2 websites provide excellent help, I just showed an option which I believe is quite viable too.

Finally, nothing stops the OP from doing both.

Yes i agree that nothing stops them from doing both and Defender is good for normal scans but here is what i think they will do, have him run Malwarebytes, maybe ckscanner or AdWCleaner and then FRST ! But you still have to have a trained Specialist who knows how to read these logs ! Just my opinion not suggesting anything here !

Since the OP does not mention any suspicion of any infection or any slow down of his machine or any erratic behavior of his machine or the like, I don't think that the issue is that bad.

Let him scan his machine, he has Defender, so why not start with that? He could post the results of the Defender scans (plural) and we'll see.

Well, I can personally vouch for at least some people on one of the two sites (y) The other site also has a good reputation (y)

What I am saying is that the OP can start simple, and if he still feels the need, he can get help from the two sites, by all means (y)(y)

I would STAY AWAY from these 'specialists'.
Those people have gone thru long special training BEFORE they are even allowed to assist in the dedicated malware removal sections.
It is not a free for all dumpster fire that the general help sites are.

Hello, Bryan.

Welcome to ElevenForum.

Sorry I'm late to the party.

Use your Windows Security (aka Defender), to run a 'Full' scan. You can also use it to run an 'Off Line' scan. It's consistently ranked among the best.

If you don't have Malwarebytes installed, get the free version, and run it. it's great for finding and removing malware, spyware, keyloggers and so on.

Malwarebytes Free.

Malwarebytes AdwCleaner, is a good tool, as well. I recommend you try it. You can get the Free edition too.

AdwCleaner Free

Also, a little used tool provided by Microsoft is MSRT. It will find any malicious software, that may have found it's way onto your PC. There is no tutorial on it here at ElevenForum, but there is one on TenForums That should work just the same. I use 'Option One'. Trigger a 'Full' scan. Great tool.

How to run an MSRT scan.

I hope this gives you a few helpful options. Best of luck!

Regards, WXC.

@Bryan123,

RE: My last post...

Just a word of caution, if you decide to DL Malwarebyter Free or AdwCleaner Free, although perfectly safe, read carefully when DL'ing. Otherwise 'Browser Guard' or something else may slip past you.

I'm confident it is fine and could be easily removed if one wanted to. But some people, like myself, prefer not to use extensions.
