I bought this CD from Amazon and to my horror, this was a new version created in recent years.

Basically same as original in 70s but different singers.

So I bought the original and did a comparison.

However, when I played the classic "Forever Autumn",now sung by Gary Barlow, it was so flat with little tonal range.

I compared it with the original version sung by the legendary Justin Haywood (Moody Blues - one of my favorite bands from University days many moons ago) and there was just no comparison, with the original by Justin having a greater tonal and overall more melodious range with a heart felt gravitas relevant to meaning of song.

Worse still, the narrator of the new version (Liam Neesom) was also decidely flat compared with the original narration by the legendary Richard Burton with his rich, deep and melliflous voice (for which he was famous).

I returned the new version as it may well have some better modern sound effects, but listening to the music and narration was so inferior.
It is a pity that Jeff Wayne sanctioned such an inferior version (I guess at 81 his hearing range is much reduced plus of course, dosh talks).

Definitely a case where cover versions are inferior to the originals.
