Warm (re)boot laptop mouse and KB not available for use

I know this will appear like a duplicate post from me...but mods the previous post was hijacked to a discussion of CMOSS-less battery laptops AND i have some fresh insights to my problem to share and request possible solution

My problem

Cold starting (booting) the laptop with battery power or after disconnecting and reconnecting AC power - KB and mouse available

Warm restarting (booting) the laptop - no KB nor mouse available

Its something in the continuous power supply that is preventing the KB and mouse from functioning and when the supply is shut off and restarted there is no issue

I saw your previous post. Going by the age of your cpu, that told me your laptop is circa 2018. I felt then that you have a hardware issue in either the circuitry on the motherboard that regulates power from the battery or your battery itself is defective but I'm not a hardware person so left it to the others to advise you.

If my hunch is right, you could try replacing the battery. Aftermarket 3rd party batteries cost about $30. Genuine HP are pretty steep. There's no way of testing the mobo circuitry.
Otherwise, You may well be forced to use the laptop on AC power at all times or shutdown and cold boot rather than restart if on battery. I would suspect if it is either the regulator circuitry or the battery that you will have other power issues pop up at some point.

Please answer these questions.
No one asked about your touchpad. Does it work after a restart on battery power?
When you say "keyboard"do you mean an external keyboard or the keyboard in the laptop?
Does the laptop work correctly when woke from sleep when on battery power? AC power?

There were a couple of relevant CMOS posts so members fully understood the hardware in question. You could of just posted your “fresh insight” in the same thread.

Assuming your HP is not to old to run HP diagnostic Software, I would suggest you at least try to run through the options.
