WATCH OUT FOR RAM PRICES!

At some point, instead of selling a kidney I will part out my daily driver desktop.
I can just part out my backup machine, I still have the laptop if I'm really desperate! :p What can I get for 32GB of DDR5 memory? :lmao:

It is the exact same people making consumer RAM kits that sell to AI companies. The same for SSD type storage, etc. etc.

Micron Announces Exit from Crucial Consumer Business

Why sell cheap units to consumers when you can build massively expensive devices for the AI Data Centers for much more profit. It's a business decision that many people if placed in the same CEO decision process would make the same decision to increase profits for the company.

Of course it is. Shareholders probably applauded this decision.

Given what I know about the economy I'm inclined to think that I would not make the same decision to increase profits considering the fact that without the end user there is no further profit to be had. Potentially, this move can seriously backfire. Diversification has always been a cardinal rule in sound business practice. That Micron completely pulled the plug on the domestic end user is disgraceful. Already AI Data Centers are suffering for want of investors and resources. Public hostility toward AI is increasing and no great wonder there.

Stepping further back to see the bigger picture only results in being deemed a conspiracy theorist, an alarmist, or a nut case. Nonetheless there is indeed a consortium group that orchestrates these decisions, the same group that brought you your beloved TPM, and the same group that decides what is best for them -- not necessarily the domestic end user. That much can be validated and verified. It only makes sense that groups of this nature would prefer that the public keep their personal data on their clouds (as opposed to private servers). It only makes sense that compute remains in the hands of big business. It only makes sense that the end user has little to no proprietary rights while the corporate monopolies practically have it all. It makes sense to them. Not to me. (Posted via Linux)

I don't think of myself as a conspiracy theorist. That said the 'participants' don't have to meet in some hotel room somewhere to fix prices.

For years, the airlines would fix prices using fare websites to post increases. One airline would post an increase. Then the others either followed or the original airline would roll back the increase. I;m not sure that practice still continues.

Since I worked in product management for computer security for over 10 years and during the time that TPM was developed, i am confident that there were good intentions around TPM.

Oh, here's another one:

"TPM was originally created by a consortium called the Trusted Computing Group (TCG) in 2003 to enable trusted computing features in computers, mobile devices as well as network equipment."

To say that there is no conspiracy is voluntary ignorance. This is precisely what consortiums do: They conspire, the members come together and plan. That's called conspiring. Trusted Computing Group does so much more than simply promote TPM, but they are very proud of their consistently failing pet project. To say that they don't agree upon what works best for them and their ilk is tantamount to absolute naivety. Their concept of trust isn't about whether or not you can trust them. No, it is completely about whether or not they can trust you to give them unlimited control over your hardware. If anyone is wondering what this has to do with money and profit they really should think this through. Should we assume that TCG had no say in things like "One Drive", "Recall", or Bit Locker? I think not. Let's take it one step further then: Should we assume that TCG had nothing to do with the price increase of RAM despite all the main manufacturers being members of this consortium? Should we suppose then that despite price fixing being consistently proven in the past that they would not dare to do the same thing again? I'll take that tin foil hat over a dunce cap any day of the week.

So then is the development of memory interface standards, by committee (JEDEC) comprised of memory and system manufacturers, a conspiracy too?

To say that there is no conspiracy is voluntary ignorance.
To consider any organization a conspiracy is not ignorance, however it's a bit crazy. By that yardstick every conversation in my back yard with a neighbor is a conspiracy! 😏

Gave Dell touch screen with Windows 11 to daughter and got me an OTVOC. Being a PC builder I own many desktop PCs as well. I am a father of five providing PCs, laptops, and tablets for all my family, most of which I have modified, rebuilt, or simply built from scratch. I do not own a cell phone, never have, never will.

Sounds like something someone would say if they're conspiring with their neighbors. ;-)

But no, you're correct. Conspiracy requires unlawful or harmful intent.
