Solved went looking for weather apps, DONT install weather bar!

caused a lot of troubles.
It did install, and it did run one time showing the temp on task bar and other info when clicked.
I was able to set to my local city and it showed the temp etc...
I X'd it off, then started having troubles.
It would not start again, as in open. Icon disappeared from task bar, would not open from start menu.
So I tried to uninstall and it would not allow for awhile, the uninstall system page kept a rotating circle icon over only it's app name to uninstall.
Finally it allowed an uninstall, why I dont know.

Then both Edge and Chrome, I could not click after a search past 4 or 5 on bottom of search pages, just showed a mouse circle.
So you could click 2 or 3, and click the far right arrow.

I had to restart PC, then searches were back to normal.

I would do a System Restore, or better yet, restore from a backup... from before you installed Weather Bar.

Well... if you don't have any restore points or don't use backup software, you can do an In-Place Upgrade.
This will repair Windows and leave your programs and files, untouched.

Repair Install Windows 11 with an In-place Upgrade

This tutorial will show you how to do a repair install of Windows 11 by performing an in-place upgrade without losing anything. If you need to repair or create a new recovery partition or having problems with the Windows 11 operating system on your PC, and the usual solutions will not fix it...

Here is the short version of the In-place upgrade tutorial...

DISABLE non-Microsoft:
a) antivirus software
b) firewall software
c) drive encryption software

Make a full OS backup with a program like Macrium Reflect (free)
Macrium Software | Macrium Reflect Free

Go here and get the Windows 11 ISO (use the 3rd option), and save the ISO to your desktop.
Download Windows 11

Right click the ISO image and choose: MOUNT
Open File Explorer and you will see a new drive letter. It will "look" like a DVD optical drive.
Double click the new drive letter to open it.
Find setup.exe and double click it to start the in-place upgrade.

Choose the Keep personal files and apps option.

After it's all done... to UNmount the ISO image, right click the new drive letter and choose: EJECT.

The ONLY thing you will lose is some of your personalizations. Your programs and data will be intact.

Note: We don't use backup software because we "like" to. We use backup software for days like these.
I have 40GB on my C:\ drive and it takes me only 2:30 (mins.), to make a backup, and 2:00 to restore from a backup.

Both Macrium Reflect and AOMEI Backupper have free versions.

Backup software is a "Get out of jail free" card... "Keep until needed or sold".
Especially on a new OS... backup software is a must.

Maybe there is a restore point, perhaps 2, but i dont want to do that, looks messy, a lot of affected programs.

The safe thing to do is set your location in the windows weather app and pin it to the task bar.

Actually this particular PC has nothing important on it. Everything on it is freely downloadable.
It is really used as a web PC only and is actually my boat PC used for navigation, but have not used it now on the boat for over a year.
Eventually it should go back to the boat, where it does sit in a cabin out of any obvious weather.
This PC is on its at least 4th MB over about the last 15 years. What happens is I think humid air eventually causes the MB to fail due to corrosion issues caused by condensation due to temperature swings. What I do for it is slowly upgrade it with new parts when things fail or the software runs too slowly, mostly used parts off Ebay.

I have another PC that has a whole lot of stuff going back years, programs I wrote, etc... that is never on anymore and it has about 4 old style spinner drives.

Maybe just get a GPS device for the boat. They're much sturdier than a laptop.
They probably won't check your email, or go on Facebook, though.

Or maybe a waterproof laptop case.

Odd thing about it, I can change the location from Autodetect, which it says is Yorktown, VA to Newport News, VA properly.
BUT, get this, if I type in Seaford, VA, that named location shows up in the list, but when selected it reverts just to VA, like a generic composite place.
See if you can select Seaford, Va and have it stick as Seaford, Va

Maybe there is no weather info for it, even though its name appears in the list?

Sure, but it is all about the cost. NOAA lets you download all the ENC maps for free.
And OpenCPN nav program is free too.
Otherwise a dedicated chart plotter costs a lot and the map updates cost a lot.

Maybe someday, I will get a mini PC and have it sit next to the screen. My Nav PC is placed in a cabinet under a deck about 20 feet away.
It has decent air flow there and is always dry. but it is isolated from the main salon. I just think subtle humidity issues cause eventual failures.

I know... get a hermetically sealed case for your laptop. Pump it full of Argon, at just above atmospheric pressure.
Why Argon... I dunno, it just sounded extra cool. :)

I think they actually use Helium in the hermetically sealed hard drives.
