What are people's thoughts on onlyoffice

I saw Libreoffice mentioned here, but nothing about Onlyoffice, been using onlyoffice for a little while and I like it so far, it mimic's Microsoft office layout and ribbon UI and so far has opened all MS office extensions without any problems and has never once had a formatting issue crop up with opening said files.

Been using it for years. Have never noticed any incompatibility with MSOrifice old and new formats. Make sure you choose the less obvious DesktopEditors_x64 download if you have no interest in cloud/ collaboration or AI nonsense.

That's exactly why I decided not to use Only Office.
Because I have used the menu interface of Office 2003 and it's predecessors, I am very much a proponent of that menu-structure. Used Office 2007 for a year, but could not get used to the ribbon and at the end decided to return to Office 2003. Since about 1.5 years I have Softmaker Office 2021, in which you can switch form ribbon to menustructure. And I'm very happy with it. For me it was free, because the makers had an offer (for a very short time) to get an official licence for nothing, which I used.

But somewhere back in 2023 I did a test-installation of Only Office and can imagine you are content with it. If it would not have that ribbon, I might have choosen to use it.

Have not used. I do wish the industry would slow down on the AI in everything approach though. AI is useful but does not need to be integrated into everything.

I'm waiting for to test EuroOffice.... I using LibreOffice now, and MS-office(Excel) 2007 as some excel sheets i get sent to me has some micros in them that dont want to play nice in LibreOffice.

You're right. Have never heard of them. Odd, you'd think in a thirty year history I'd have come across them before. I've done thousands of support tickets for malware removal and don't recall seeing the name in any logs either. Do you use it? How do you like it?

I've used their free email service for years- no issues. I use an email client. Usual response when giving an email address 'Oh, I've never heard of that one!'
I've had a couple of questions about SPAM- and had a useful quick response.

As for the huge range of online business-related tools- that seems to have grown- must beat Google.

I actually normally use Atlantis Word Processor which I got as a giveaway- rather an old-fashioned MS Word set of toolbars, or a ribbon style as you prefer.
It's faster to load than LibreOffice's Writer.

Science is science and is universal not political -- no reason to suppose decent software originating in Russia, and cheap is worse than anybody else's. If it works decently and you have adequate protections then use it. If paranoid then don't.

Some of the weird conspiracy theories read in these sections would often make even the most extreme form of science fiction seem like gospel truth !!!.

Yes, we do live in strange times. The largest volume of privacy concerns voiced on this Forum seems (to me) to be linked to either Operating System and/or Browser-based functions; and I wonder where the focus of those most frequently voiced concerns maintain their key centres of develpment/operation?

On a related aspect, people are familiar with OneNote. But if you are still learning, it isn't enough. Two tools help you make sense of your data:

The first is Zettelkasten. As you assemble a group of notes, you see the connections that arise out of them. The German sociologist Nicholas Luhmann famously popularised it.

Daniel Luedecke created a free and open source Zettelkasten, allowing one to view what a collection of notes actually show -

Whatever office suite one uses is as subjective of a subject as what one chooses to use as his email provider, imaging software,(et al) or for that matter even one's OS. We all use our computers in different ways, for different purposes, and with different expectations. Add user "habits", different skill levels, and ability to comfortably deal with change into the equasion and the bottom line answer to some questions always comes down to "use whatever you like and works for you." The beauty is we have choices. Try as many as you like until you find one that fits.
