Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 15 years?
It is quite simple, you update drivers from the Acer update app and Windows updates. Often the manufacturers updates are also in Windows updates.

I can assure you that Windows updates has never messed up video drivers on my Laptops for 12 years. It does not matter if they are 6-12 months old (stable, mature, reliable). Saves you from Beta style latest drivers.

Laptop hardware is different, more integrated than a Desktop.

My old Laptop is still receiving updates to system drivers after 12 years from Windows updates.

Any extra VRAM should be allocated from main RAM as required by an application, thus reducing RAM available for other purposes.
That is automatic on demand with Intel CPUs with iGPU. Not sure whether that is the same for AMD CPUs with iGPU.

Good for you but there are other drivers besides video and plenty of reports of WU screwing them up. WU is well known for replacing current drivers with old ones . As well, WU will force new bios versions without the user having a say-so in it. Sorry, but I don't want WU anywhere near my bios or any other component of my system. While most times WU may can handle it, IMO there's enough instances being reported where I consider WU and drivers being a crap-shoot. The OP can take our opposing views and make his own decision.

Yes, v31.0.12032.4 shall contain both the driver and the adrenaline application.

I see that you got an error message when trying to install the drivers directly from AMD. Did you try to first install the driver through device manager and then only the adrenaline application from the setup from AMD.

Your laptop has a CPU with integrated graphics, I can't see what's so customised from Acer so you aren't able to use the drivers from AMD.

Apart from the link to the drivers from Acer you can use the serial number of your laptop to search for drivers and display the drivers only applicable to your hardware.

No didn't use device manager to install. Just double clicked after downloading it.

You can try it. If the driver installs through Device manager then it's an issue with the installer because it checks your system and see that you have OEM drivers and refuses to install the one from AMD. It's worth a shot.

Windows Update lists Beta Drivers? I thought device manufacturers has to go through all that Rigorous Microsoft's WHQL testing of their drivers to get a certificate of approval from Microsoft before it is allowed to be listed on their windows update right otherwise face millions of troubleshooting computer issues from Microsoft windows users?

Wow how you get such long support updates for 12 years from Windows Update as someone posted earlier companies abandon their support for their devices after like 2 years. Do you mean OS Windows updates or security updates for 12 years? Sounds like you still using Windows 7?

Strangely the Acer App does not pick up updates but Windows updates does, why is that?

Why does windows update replace new driver versions with old ones? Windows Update cannot detect the current version numbers of device drivers on your computer?

Hi,

AMD Software currently reports current version is 31.0.12032.3002 however I downloaded VGA Driver AMD 2023/01/04 31.0.12032.4 705.28 MB as you advised and ran it and the AMD Software Installer says on screen that this is a Downgrade released 13th Sep 2022

Can you please help me find the latest graphics drivers for my laptop please.

This is the latest version provided by Acer. Your best chance to update the driver is to try to install the driver from AMD. Like I suggested you can try first to install the driver through Device manager and then install the AMD adrenaline application. if you need additional guidance on this process please do not hesitate to ask.

Can you please send the hardware id of your graphic card. You can see it in Device manager/open your display adapter/Details/Hardware Ids.?

I see so many hardware IDs, which one is it please? Is this also available in AMD Adrenalin Software?

Hi @very_452001

To find which driver is linked to those Hardware ID's see the screenshot below using the Device Manager and the Regedit. The DriverPackageIds value in the Registry will tell you which INF file was used for the driver.
Naturally you will need to do this for each Hardware ID.

find amd drivers details.png

To find the drivers name use the DriverPackageId value from the Registry and search your windows folder for the INF file, in this example it is 'amdfendr.inf'. Open the INF file in Notepad and associated drivers will be listed.

NOTE: For some of Hardware IDs, in the Registry the driver may be listed under 'LocationInformation'.

"Do you mean OS Windows updates or security updates for 12 years? Sounds like you still using Windows 7?"

No, that was the old Laptop started life with Windows 8.1 and now has whatever is the latest version of Windows 10.
Never had Windows 7 on any of my current hardware.
As I said they were system drivers, no idea what for, I don't care, just installed them. Same for both old Laptop and new Laptop.

"Strangely the Acer App does not pick up updates but Windows updates does, why is that?"

Not strange at all, it is same for my Old Laptop (Windows 10), and the new Laptop from late 2022 (Windows 11). Both have Intel iGPU and Nvidia dGPUs.
The latest Laptop 2022 has Intel Iris Xe Graphics iGPU, and Nvidia RTX 3070 Ti Laptop dGPU.

Currently Windows updates leads Manufacturers updates by 3 months, can't wait for next "thrilling update".

As I said in the previous 1st paragraph, simple no worries.

Windows suppose to be convenient & easy but just to install the latest graphics drivers on a windows laptop nowadays why is it becoming less user friendly like Linux Distros with Hardware ID's, Regedit, opening infs in text editors & stuff just to update the graphics drivers🫨?

And once I manage to find the hardware ID then what can be done with this ID?
