windows 11
Supposedly the PC is miracast available, but when clicking network icon, cast, says the device does not support miracast!
What device? PC or the projector?

I can miracast to the projector using my samsung phone and it works, so why is windows saying that message?

Perhaps something in
Connect to Wireless Display with Miracast- ElevenForumTutorials
will help you.
If not, you might usefully ask your question in the tutorial thread.

When I could not get a Miracast link to work a couple of years ago, Brink told me that Miracast was unreliable. That was in Windows 10, I have no idea if its Windows 11 version is any better or not.

Best of luck,
Denis

Does the PC have to have a wireless connection?
It is only hooked to the LAN while a phone is wireless connection, maybe miracast forms a tunnel between devices not using the wired LAN?
I can not get Miracast to work on windows 10 or windows 11 yet.

But at one time windows 10 did show the Lolipop-xxxxx projector name twice in the connect list, but clicking it did nothing, I then deleted both devices, clicked add a device and they never appeared again.

Once again wasting my time, all sorts of web searches are also not helping yet.

My understanding is that the connections need to be WiFi ones but you'd be better off asking Brink about it.

I've added links to the TenForumsTutorials in your TF thread.

Best of luck,

That is just DirectX diagnostics, all it means is that your version of DirectX supports Miracast.
That does not mean the Wireless Card and other hardware and drivers does.

Your PC system is 14 years old hardware, so very unlikely to support Miracast even with a suitable Wireless adapter installed.

"I can miracast to the projector using my samsung phone and it works"
The age of that hardware is what exactly ?

The phone is an old s8 note, the projector is a 2023 model Jifar H6.
I also miracasted using a s22 note, my daughters phone, and it worked perfectly smoothly. My s8 was not as smooth due to the processor inside is not as powerful. You install 'All Mirror Screen' from google play, it works for free. You set projector to connect to your local wireless router. When it says waiting for connection, you run the phone miracast app, press connect button, look for the projector name and click it and the phone screen mirrors to the projector. It looks great with no noticeable delay. In the miracast app, you may have to click hamburger icon and tell it its ok to mirror the video screen or the projector name wont appear. I saw that happen on the s22 phone. Perfect video on the projector.

well, miracast does not work on my Asus 2in1 notebook PC either, and it is a lot newer

EDIT, discovered it does work with better instructions on how.

win11 does not recognize this as a wireless monitor display, it only sees it under 'everything else'
But then I can not cast screens to it as windows does not think it is a TV monitor. Seems to me...

Is there a way to make the thing work like it should?

OK, windows 11 on the ASUS notebook 2 in1 connected and is projecting ok, by following that website instructions.
it does work on newer hardware, OR is it the lack of wireless on the older desktop???

I read that miracast needs a wifi connection from device to device, and the desktop is only wired...If I add a wireless dongle, mabe it would work

interesting if i turn off the wireless the miracast instantly drops the projecting. If I connect to a different wifi network, it keeps working. It definitely must have a wireless capability. What I needed was better instructions.
Somewhere I have a new wireless usb dongle, I need to plug that in and see if the old desktop then works. I am going to mark this solved.

ok. more progress.
I plugged in a 802.11ac Realtek 8812BU usb thingy and it is connected to the internet by wifi.
The old desktop now sees the projector as a wireless display. It tries to connect, the projector shows connection in progress, but wndows ultimately says can not connect. So what else is wrong? I put the system page next to the add a device to show it is the old desktop.

"My s8 was not as smooth due to the processor inside is not as powerful. "

Exactly, that is about 5 years old. CPUs and other hardware for PCs/Phones have improved vastly in 14 years. So whilst supporting Miracast the CPU and probably other hardware is a bit old thus not smooth.

" OR is it the lack of wireless on the older desktop???"

That is just part of the hardware, the rest is still old hardware so probably would not perform well. It is not only Windows.

"interesting if i turn off the wireless the miracast instantly drops the projecting."

Miracast is a form of WiFi Direct. Even if WiFi Direct is supported by hardware it does not mean that Miracast is.

Miracast is a form of WiFi Direct. Even if WiFi Direct is supported by hardware it does not mean that Miracast is.
All this shows the PC must be connected by wifi for Miracast to work at all. So I wonder what part of the older desktop is lacking to make the connection. The projector does say connection in progress, but the older desktop eventually says can't connect. I think the 802.11ac wireless usb dongle is sufficiently ok, so the lack of wifi is an instant stop on even seeing a wireless display which makes sense as it is a miracast protocol which makes a direct to device wifi connection that bypasses the LAN

or maybe the usb2 port is too slow for miracast, might need to be usb 3? It may try to connect but the connection speed is too slow so it fails. Too bad windows does not give more info on why it fails. I will see if I can read up on usb speed and miracast.
I could try the usb dongle on the working notebook and turn off the inbuilt wifi. Need to move on to other projects for now
I could try it on another win10 desktop with the USB wifi that has a GT 730 video card

More good results for the old PC.
I installed wireless display on the old pc following some guide.
I set the projection settings to recieve, and windows displayed the waiting o connect screen on it.
On the laptop, I then projected the laptop screen onto the old PC. It negotiated the protocal perfectly, and the old desktop pc is showing a full laptop screen.

Does windows projection from a phone or pc to a pc use Miracast ? Cause if it does, the miracast is functioning fine on the old PC.

old desktop did say could not view protected content. Maybe that is why it can not connect to the Jifar LED projector?
Is the hdcp determined by the video card?
