Hi all,

My laptop died and I got a new one. Complete with a fresh Win11 install. I expected not much difference since on my old laptop I kept Win11 up to date as well.

Second thing I noticed and want to mention:

It seems the hibernate option has disappeared. I only have SLEEP as a setting. No hibernate anymore.

Do I need to tick a box somewhere, or is this the new standard ?

Below my WIN11 information:
Edition Windows 11 Home
Version 22H2

Seems that the HP Pavilion x360 2-in-1 Laptop 14-ek0xxx in your specs is a Modern Standby device. The default install of Windows 10/11 on a Modern Standby device does not include Hibernate. It can however be enable by jumping through a few hoops, with the aid of some of Brink's tutorials....

I have two 'almost new' laptops, both less than a year old. One supports Modern Standby, the other (cheaper) one doesn't.
While I cannot remove Modern Standby, I could tame it. To save on battery power I like all my laptops to sleep on closing the lid, then hibernate after 20 minutes if I don't return to them.
How to disable Modern Standby? I want regular Sleep again! - post#9

Thanks Bree. So what happens when I leave the laptop running and have some unsaved files open. Will they be saved before the laptop runs out of power ?

Hibernate is not related to modern standby!

Just run

Code:
powercfg -h on

from and admin command prompt.

Then go to power setting from old control panel, click on link shown in red

1667747656492.png
Then click on next link

1667747768725.png

Then check hibernate box and save settings.

Hibernate is now available.

All my laptops hibernate reliably, even the Win7 ones. They all sleep when I close the lid then hibernate after 20 minutes, should I not come back to them. This one below is my Win11 Modern Standby one...

It seems the hibernate option has disappeared.

I suggest you run this command then post the results
PowerCfg -a
so your available power/sleep states can be understood.

All the best,
Denis
