This was sitting in my scheduled task. It did not show up as being malicious when I went to scan it via VirusTotal. It was easily uninstalled. However, I'd like to know where it might have originated from, considering I have a new W11 installation. The full path is: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Infatica P2B\infatica-service-app.exe"

Infatica is a proxy service. It is possible it got on your system as a "additional" app when you downloaded and installed something else. It's always VERY important to pay close attention when installing any piece of software that you check or uncheck the boxes that installs other pieces of software that you do not want. It's quite common for people to hit next-next-next when installing software without reading through each step of the installation process.

I do and this is why it's even more troubling where this came from.

It is not any particular extension, but rather any extension that couples with them. I suspect if you delete the file you may either have no issues, or one of your extensions may break

Hmm. This is puzzling. I confirmed with my other PCs which are synched with my Chrome browser and none of them have this file.

My only guess is not long ago Edge (which is not synched) pulled my Chrome extensions automatically without my permission. I then removed all the extensions Edge had installed. All my extensions run fine on Chrome.

I did perform a malware scan with Windows Defender and nothing was found. I think I'll install SUPERAntispyware and run it.

I just did some reviewing myself since I performed a Windows "Reset" earlier today and I used CCLeaner to reveal it was hiding as a scheduled task. I'm baffled myself where this came from. It appears nobody knows.

It appeared today after I installed K-Lite Code Pack and Adobe Acrobat. So, it might came with KLCP. I always try to pay attention to not accept other software installation (Adobe offers you Norton Security), but it was 3:00 a.m.

Thanks for the update. I use K-Lite so you might be right! I since uninstalled Infatica via Revo Uninstaller and it hasn't returned since updating the codec.

Just wondering something. I understand it's your choice, but I'm interested in knowing why in this day and time you install codecs when there are so many excellent apps that work without them?(ie VLC) I haven't installed klite since Windows XP.

Because Windows does not always see newly released files. Example: When Nikon released their D850, Explorer couldn't see the NEF files so Nikon released a NEF Codec pack for those files, even though the Nikon D800/E also does NEF files. However, the D850 files are bigger than the D800/E files.

Point it's not always Windows, but the app itself that may require the codec depending on files it uses.

I've registered here just to post this:
I have installed the "K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 17.7.7" and during the installation made sure to decline any other additional software, but the Infatica thing still installed and I didn't notice it until 2 days later.

Meanwhile what it did was use over 2GB of data from my internet:

32r3.png

I was able to uninstall it using RevoUninstallerPortable.
But bundling such a disgusting and potentially dangerous software that uses your PC as a proxy for someone is absolutely unacceptable.
Who knows what sites or content those 2.55GB are.

I can't believe K-Lite degenerated to using such disgusting methods to make money, by bundling potentially dangerous software/malware onto their installer which you sometimes can't even decline installing or the decline option is so very well hidden you will install it by mistake.

I just installed windows and also installed the KLCP that I have always used, I never saw this Infatica P2B Network before. I think, it was installed after installing some extensions in Egde or Chrome.
