What Start Menu replacement software do you use?


I find it completely mesmerizing that there is thousands of developers out there, creating tens of thousands of utilities that users desire, and that Windows is totally capable of handling, yet, Microsoft offers nothing of the like! Instead they create useless, off-the-wall, bloated alternatives! 🤷‍♂️

Yes, the whole Windows ecosystem survives on these thousands of developers. I know because I was using Borland Turbo Assembler (TASM) myself as a young student. 35 years ago.

Microsoft does offer the most used productivity apps in business today: Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.

its very good everything on the same page
pinned items at the top and a full menu below the pinned items.

What i love a out StartAllBack is not just start menu customization, but also loads of taskbar (and flyouts) and explorer tweaks. Also very fast and frequent updates even for dev insiders. Just love it.

In 24H2 and 25H2 the original "Windows 10" taskbar style doesn't work because of changes in the taskbar code. You must replace it with "Windows 10 (EcplorerPatcher)" style. To avoid some incompatibility bugs with Open Shell, upgrade the latter to the latest version.

With StartAllBack u can have taskbar on side if i am correct. And pinning apps in start menu is also possible. Give it a try. Really powerful tweak and very simple settings GUI.

All I desire is to have a narrow, customizable list of programs on the left side of my screen! Period! Nothing else!

I don't need an oversized pool of a menu to pin slabs of tiles to.
I don't need alpha categories, I know what letter the program shortcut starts with.
I don't need the assistance of Copilot in my Start menu.
I don't need to see the Bing weather in my Start menu.
I don't need to see my Phone next to the Start menu.
I certainly don't want to see ads in my Start menu.
Need I go on...??? 🤷‍♂️

This is true..., however, by the same token, I also find it peculiar why the most widely used Office Suite, developed by the world's leading software developer, does not have a one-click Export my Settings feature.
After my Crash, the biggest p-i-t-a program to re-configure was Office!

Start 11 I only wanted to tweak a few things, Taskbar at the top of the screen, I use the Windows 11 Style Start Menu with apps etc pinned to the Start Menu.

I asked Copilot for an answer for why there is no Office settings Export/Import feature and was given several pages outlining the different versions of Office compounded with all the different Office apps and the staggering complexity of supporting such a feature. Read it for yourself in Copilot and you'll understand why it isn't there.

Don't just blame Microsoft. I don't know of many other applications that can export/import their settings. I have to configure every single one from scratch every time I reinstall Windows.

    Legacy MBR installation, no TPM, no Secure Boot, no WDDM 2.0 graphics drivers, no SSE4.2, cannot get more unsupported ;) This is only my test laptop. I had installed Windows 11 here before upgrading my main PC. For my main PC I use everyday see my 2nd system specs.
