I am looking for recommendations on good software for recovering accidentally deleted files and folders.

My client so far has declined investing in robust backups. She may be more inclined now, especially if attempts to recover lost information remain less than complete.

I've used on call testdisk for a long time, there is also Recuva.

Be aware the less time between deletion and recovery the better the chance of recovery and you will need to recover to a different disk otherwise you risk not being able to recover. SSDs are also less likely to be recoverable since TRIM will not only mark blocks as free but also erase data from them.

No file recovery I have ever tried, ever worked. Triple backup with a cloud save is the only way to go.
Professional recovery services use a software worth thousands, which might work, even on a burnt disk.

If a client asks: What do I have to do to regain my lost memories? Try reincarnation, there is no other way without a backup!

And by trying them out, people actually lower the chance of the recovery. I guess those files are not worth much. :think:

There's no question that creating disk images on a regular basis is the best option - and something all users should do. Having said that, Recuva works.
