Solved What would be the reason for download speed to go up and down ?

My internet speed recently is not stable and my ISP say there is no problem and the speed is fixed but my download to anything goes up and down like 15mb to 25mb and it does not reach the maxmium 30mb, any one know what would be the reason ? how to diagnose this and fix it if possible ?

There are several factors that can affect the perceived download speed, the general background tasks performed in the local system, other foreground tasks, fluctuations at any of the many junction points that a signal goes via to reach your system, and of course the amount of traffic on the relevant systems

The headline rate provided by the ISP is one that I cannot ever recall seeing on any system. for example I have just ordered a new service, the headline rate is quoted at 900Mb/s, but the minimum guaranteed rate is just 450 Mb/s

yes but speed was fixed at full speed for years. I test it also from my mobile the speed is not fixed and it stop at max 25mb

it was router problem, I reset the settings and I dont know if I will need to replace it or not.

If it is under Warranty you can ask the shop for replacement but I don't think they will do only because it is a little slower. The same goes if it was provided by your ISP. You can replace it by a new one but if telephone should be connected to the router you need one with voice support. Here in Greece it is almost impossible to find a router at the stores that also supports voice. Buying a plain VDSL modem/router without voice support would leave us without landline phone. Some of us use our mobiles and wouldn't care, but if you want to use the landline phone you must have this in mind. Assuming you buy a router, you may have to manually configure it with your ISP account to access the internet. Make sure you know the username, password and any other configuration details you may have to input manually before replacing the router.
