where are the dll files located for changing the buttons in windows 11?


Thanks for that.
Being both a Dev Insider & a Beta insider could be problematic for me.
Especially Dev where we get full builds, not just patches.
But then again, if you modify the look of your OS, it's for keeps, so you would
most likely use a stable version.(or as stable as MS can make it) :p

Lots of helpful info there. Thanks Zantetsuken for confirming my suspicions about the location of the icon files in Win11.

Luckily I have a separate backup OS drive from my main OS just in case bad things happen. Meaning I can boot into the backup OS and edit the main drive much easier. Taking ownership of the files is basically all I need to do to replace the originals with my edited versions (keeping the originals just in case of course).

As a side note I found I also had to take ownership of the entire \SystemResources folder in order to copy my pre-prepared edited versions of imagesres.dll.mun and imagesp1.dll.mun in to the folder. Even though it was for all intents and purposes not in use. Minor but something to point out for future reference.

No problem this is the kind of stuff I do for fun. I explore and do weird things to Windows and mess around with things that aren't recommended and sometimes even wind up crashing my system.
So others don't have to. but system failure just comes with the territory but you gain a lot of useful first-hand knowledge. plus I have my system set up in a way that complete system failure doesn't bother me.

    No we dont do that. I find that antivirus and antimalware software is more damaging and evasive than most of the thing they remove.
